OMG. I'm so sorry that this happened to your mom and her poor baby. Did the other dog recently have puppies as well? The reason why I'm asking is that my sister used to raise Shih Tzu's and she had 2 that had babies within just a week or so of each other and the one that had the babies first killed all but 1 of the other puppies. This was Precious my Shih Tzu that I had for 15 years. Needless to say she was extremely spoiled. We also raised Pekes when I was a kid and we had one that whenever she had babies she just turned into a real bitch and if I remember correctly she snapped at a puppy once and left in blind in one eye. I'm sorry I can't remember if it was a puppy of hers or another one. I wish I could offer so comfort but, I'm not sure what to say. My sister was also 9 months pregnant at the time. I'm surprised that the sight of that didn't send her into labor. Again, I'm so sorry this happened to you & your family. |
Oh, I'm so sorry for your loss! You must be devastated. I'm not a breeder, but when I was about 3 our dog had puppies, and she killed them all herself. Of course, that may have been bad breeding, this was the 60's and she was a family pet who got pregnant "accidentally". People didn't have all the information they have now. Again, I'm really sorry for your situation. I'm sure many of the wonderful breeders on YT can help more than I can. |
thank you i am heartbroken i will never forget the sight , the dog who killed the pups had her own babies in feb this year and was a wonderful mother we cannot explain this i will never forget today |
OMGosh - I've heard stories of that happening but never knew anyone who went thru it - that had to be just awful ! Mother Nature was at work but I think ALL puppies should be protected from other females when born..... Your poor mom. That's very very sad and I'm so sorry this happened....With the mommy dog....someone may be able to help you help HER with her grief....I doubt giving her a stuffed toy will help but I've heard letting them spend time with her babies sometimes helps her realize what happened - The breeders can help you better. Poor Mommy..... Rest in peace little tiny angels....... |
Im so sorry for your loss. Im not a breeder either so I really don't have any answers. This is so sad. Im sure someone here will be able to help you. :ghug: Rest in peace little angels. :littleang |
omg this is so sad i'm sorry for your loss i hope you can find a way to console the momma aww i feel so sad. but here is big hugs:hug: :justahug: :ghug: |
Oh my Gosh , that is soo terrible, i feel so bad for you and the Mommy. Mabey one of our Breeders have some answers. Huggs |
Oh what a sad day. I am so very sorry. Sending hugs :ghug: |
What a terrible experience. I'm so sorry for all of you. It is a good thing for all breeders to know of that possibility. Thanks for sharing. |
thanks for the well wishes i will pass them on to my mum , i must say Dee Dee had her pups on Monday and i block the entrance to her room where she is nursing my other dogs always have to wait to meet new arriivals they are defenceless after all, and you can never say my dog would`nt do that , do you think it is because the neighbor came in and her instincts took over ? i do not know but my mum is breaking her heart she blames herself |
why was another dog allowed around newborn pups? well mothers can be very protective of their babies .but why was a strange dog left alone long enough to kill yoour 4 puppies? did anyone not see or hear what was happening? i'm confused. sorry for the loss ,but if i'm reading things right it could have been prevented. |
Such a sad story! So sorry for your mums loss. I agree with others that the new mom and and pups should have been confined... away from all other dogs.... for protection as well as for health reasons (not to expose the pups to anything). When the mommy dog's milk dries up she should be back to her old self. Again.... so sorry.... |

The way I understood it is, that they had no reason to believe that anything like this would happen as it had not happened before. That this is not a strange dog that they have had both for a while. You just never know what will happen. Yes it could have been avoided but it was a tragic accident. JMO |
I am so sorry this unfortunate accident happened, its very sad! Its always best to keeps moms and new babies totally separate until the pups are weaned. Whats surprising is the female didnt protect her babies! Moms are usually very protective, they usually will growl and bark at anyone (canine or humans they dont know) coming near their newborn babies, protecting them with her life. |
i agree all other dogs should be kept away from new mums and babies and i keep all my dogs away from my mums and babies, this tragedy happened to my mother and she would never have left them in danger her heart is broken this other dog has never shown any aggresion before this is an accident, as i said a neighbor was round so maybe her attention was off the pups for a while but my mum loves her dogs and would never see any harm come to the babies |
I'm so sorry!!! I know that there was no intentional harm. You all are in my prayers. |
I am so sorry for your loss!!! I am sorry for the terrible pain you must be feeling. I will keep you all in my prayers!!!! |
I'm so sorry for the loss. I can't imagine how hard this must be not only for you and your mom but the yorkie momma. :( |
What a horrible story. Poor little mommy. They don't understand. My condolences to you and your Mother. Maybe the other dog was just jealous? I have no idea why a good dog would do something like this but I would like to know what a breeder would say. |
I am so terribly sorry. I can't even imagine the pain and sadness you are all feeling. Thank you so much for posting though because I know you have prevented this from happening again to someone else. I know I will be more careful even if I think a dog would never do this. We think of our dogs as humans, but we forget they have a lot of natural instincts we just don't understand. |
I'm so sorry. I can't imagine how horrible you're mom must feel ...it was just a terrible accident. I had this happen once ( not with yorkies) ..I blamed it on jealousy .. |
I am so sorry to hear about the loss of the litter. Sadly, it does happen...and it does not mean the bitch who killed is maladjusted...dogs can do these things, they are animals with different instincts. I had a girl with a litter of 4..her sister got into her pen during the night..I found the mom sitting by the bed while her sister was laying with the puppies. Mom was so glad to see me..I scolded sister and she got out of the bed..I realize it could have just as easily been a tragedy!! After that I got pens with clamp tops.. |
I would recommend( I know for a fact this works well with cats) is that while she is mourning the loss of her litter that you get tiny stuffed puppies and put them near her or with her and if instincts are still active(which more then likely they are) she'll begin to take care of them. It sounds funny but it works. I am so sorry about your loss. I hope all is well soon. |
How very sad!!!! The stuffed animal thing sounds like a good idea. I would give it a try for the mommies sake. Poor babies!!! |
How devistating!!!!! :( I\'ve heard instances where 2 female dogs have actually killed puppies, when left together unsupervised. They might both try to rescue the same puppy and end up tearing it apart. Could this have been what happened? |
bless you all for the kind words this was a terrible accident which will never be allowed to be repeated, please please if you have babies born and you have other dogs in the house please lock the mum and babies in the cages safely away, i must say i have always kept my cages locked i think better to be safe than sorry, but of course everyone thinks there dogs can be trusted by there instincts take over and tradegy happens, i spent so much time with my parents yesterday trying to make things better but how can i help them come to terms with this they are devastated, the mummy dog who is called Dolly i held her yesterday and cuddled her her eyes were so sad she kept just looking at me my heart was aching for her we will try the cuddly toy suggestion maybe it will help bless her, thanks for all the support and once again lets all learn a lesson from this and keep the babies away from other dogs |
Thank you for posting your story, this may prevent it from happening to others! I am very sorry this happened, that\'s so tragic, you must all be so devastated! The idea of putting stuffed animals with the mom might help her, i hope so! Please keep us updated how mommy is coping! Best wishes to you and your family. |
That is so sad and terrible. :( My mouth literally dropped open when I read it. I\'m so sorry for your losses. I seriously wonder what went through that female\'s head when she did that. :rip: :rip: :rip: :rip: |
we have spoken to the vet today and he has said the reason my parents did not hear anything going on with the pups and why the mother did not attack the other dog is probably because the mother killed the pups and my parents other yorkie went in and had a sniff and a lick of the babies after the event i wonder if this is true because my little girl has pups and she would kill any dog for going near them, also this bitch was leaving the pups often and did not want to be locked in with them which i strange , could the breeders give some advice as to whether she is likely do repeat theses actions again ? |
