He was a very tiny 1 lb at 6 weeks. He bipassed all, the growth chart predictions. My breeder said he would be about 5 lbs. I have another female who was 12 oz at 8 weeks and the growth charts said she would be 3lbs and she is 6 so sometimes you just don t know. |
the same thing happened to me....i was told my puppy would not get very large and he is much bigger than what they told me. the vet advised you cant tell what size the puppy will be unless you have "seen" the generation prior (and pedigree does not tell the lbs) vet adv me if you have two small parents, that is no guarentee the puppy will be that size. |
Not just that generation but 3 generations back. 50 percent from parents 25 percent from grandparents 12 percent from g grandparents Could have had a grandparent that was a whopper. Danger of breeding a small dog when you don't know what is in the background could have 3 small pups and a large one. If the large one comes first, may present problems. Sometimes there is a lot of variety in weight in litters could come from a number of reasons. Large and small most of the time, are in the genes. |
Very enlightening that this happens so frequently. I breed yorkies but only for three years now. I havent had these kind of way off weights, they tend to stay pretty close to the weight scale....I have been off but never (so far!!!) by more then a lb (that I know of). I have never had a puppy grow double or triple what I estimated but you all are proof it can happen. Some of the babies that have homes are young too so who knows they may take off and be as big as a great dane at adulthood...........haha :D ......Lord I hope not! Anyway weights are always a guessimate, its nice to know others experiences because they are much different then mine so far. I feel kinda bad because I didnt discourage the purchaser from pursuing action if she felt she was lied to. I still doubt the parentage of the puppy but I only know what Ive been told and I dont know the breeders story. |
Since she is a breeder it seems like she would know the grandparent weights also so If its not the parents who were bigger but the grandparents she has still been deceitful. |
