Hey I was wondering if anyone here would breed a yorkie and
maltese. I am keeping a girl so I dont have puppies comming out my ears but I would like to know if any of you would breed them ?

Me neither. There are enough mixes at the shelters.

Nope, a trip to your local dog shelter, should answer that question.

I'm not a Breeder, but I must say there is no way I would mix breed if I was one.
The shelter's are already full of mix breeds, I would hope someone wanting one would look there. They really need forever loving homes.

ok I was just wondering I wouldnt do it either but the people I got tia from bred her with a yorkie and i believe they sold the puppies. but i am keeping a fwmale so I dont have that problem , Tia and callie are both females. and they are the two i am keeping.

I would like to see the website you found. I never heard Yorkies have Maltese in them. I would be interested in reading it if you have the link to it. :)

I realize there are a lot of animals in shelters- mostly mixes correct?

I believe the reason for that is because purebreds have their own rescues, which keeps them out of shelters, but leaves many purebreds needing a home.

So I guess if we are going to say, don't breed a mix, we also better say, don't breed a purebred dog either, until all the rescues no longer have dogs.

It isn't only mixes that end up homeless- have you looked at the yorkie rescues lately?? my oh my there are a lot of yorkies needing homes.

So I say this- if you are going to say no to mixing, then you also better be saying no to breeding purebred dogs also....

We have a no kill shelter in our town, I have been there many times, we adopted a cat from there, but we had gone to look at dogs also.

I asked them, why are there no purebreds? except a few larger purebred dogs (labs mostly) they told me that the rescues for each type of purebred dog calls, and comes and gets them.

So I think it is unfair to continue to point people to shelters, but yet support breeding yorkies... since the yorkie rescues are full of purebred yorkies.

I would imagine that then all of those opposed to breeding mixes, and point people to shelters are also opposed to breeding purebreds and have gotten all their yorkies from rescues (yorkie rescues) right?

Until this happens, (no more breeding yorkies until all rescues are empty) then I see no reason for preaching "shelters" unless you yourself are also helping the homeless yorkies also (and I don't mean by donating money) I mean by opening up your home to them, and no longer breeding them.

I doubt that to be true, don't believe everything you read on the net.

Thanks, I'd love to read it. I love the Yorkie Breed, I will never be a Breeder, but I do like to learn everything I can about them.

Well the book I read, which is known to be written by the leading authority on yorkies, said that yorkies came for mixing other terriers, never a maltese. So I'd like the name of the book, and I like to know where, those who posted that on the web, got their information. Probably from the same book. Don't believe everything you read, unless it is written by an authority.

Well I was going to rescue a Yorkie before I found Princess. But I was turned down because of Children & our Pool. I didn't understand that at all, as three of our five children are adopted. So why would a State let us adopt children but not a furbaby? I still stand by not Breeding mixed breeds.There are too many out there, in and out of shelters needing loving homes.

paying 700 dollers for a c section on a dog that wasnt even mine made me realize that i dont want to breed but i love to learn about animals i always have and i lov ethe yorkie brees.

if you are all against mixing breeds then you would technically be against yorkies because they mixed several different dogs to get them the way they are today. Yes they where all terriers i do agree there , and i wouldnt mix breed a dog anyway .

that is just part of what i read I printed it out.

Well it wasn't one of the terriers that was used to create the yorkshire. There was a Scotch Terrier, named Crab, A Skye Terrier, named Kitty, and an Old English Terrier. Sorry but no Maltese.

When you do research, especially on the net, you must also research the writer. Cause I could go on the web and post that Yorkies came from pitt bulls, which BTW are also terriers.

Note that it says Most Likely including!!!!.
And who did the research for this information, and where did the information come from? There were only three breeds, the Skye, the Scoth and the Old English. No maltese and No Pitt Bulls

that is why i brought it up not to start issues but to find out what other's new and what i did not know.

Well proof No, but there have been articles written by people who knew the origin. In 1891, P H Coombs, researched the origins, and talked to people who knew how the breed had been developed in the mid 1800's.

The book I'm talking about was written by Joan B Gordon, and she specifically mentions the maltese, and why people thought it had been included, but in actuality that if it was bred with the maltese, it was AFTER it had been established as a breed of it's own.
