It is normal for the "bubble" to show itself way before baby comes. If she pushes hard for more than one hour with no baby presenting itself, get to the vet. Some girls will push off and on for up to two hours (mild labor) without trauma. But if she is really trying hard and nothing is happening, seek vet help asap! If contractions are close together (say every minute or two) for an hour and no baby, call the vet, asap. I wish you the best and for a healthy litter and mom! |
Thank you Quote:

You're welcome. But don't wait too long. If she has had a bubble presenting without a baby for over an hour and is pushing, get her some help asap. Let us know the outcome. Prayers going out her way!! |
any updates? worrying here. |
Not a good start  Unfortunately first of our puppies, a tiny boy was born still at 11pm. This is very heartbreaking. I took her to the vet because the labor stopped after this puppy. I feel helpless at this time. The vet advice was to wait up to 24 hours from the time first puppy was born, unless there is a hard labor for 30 min or more with no puppy. He didnt want to induce her labor or do a C-section at this time. It seems to me like a very long time. It is over 10 hours and still no labor. She is very calm and doesnt want to stay in her litter box. She just follows me everywhere around the house. I decided to sit on the couch so she can lay by me. Do you think it is ok? |
I would call another vet!! Do you have a stethoscope? Did they even listen to see if there were heartbeats??? Don't wait!! I would try to find someone else to help you ASAP!! Please let us know what happens - I am praying for you all and hope it turns out ok - but I am extremely WORRIED!!! |
Do you have an option of another vet? Is there an experienced breeder near that can help you? Have you had x-rays done to see how many pups there are? IMO this vet is being very casual about this. Mine would have administered oxytocin and if she is still suffering inertia, c-section to get the others out. I wouldn't be hanging around waiting. sorry if I'm making you worried, I just don't want you to lose more pups or mom. |
I'm sorry to hear what happend to the puppy. How nice you are getting help/mentoring over the internet. There are also members that have helped with situations like yours over the phone. Maybe one of our resident breeders can PM you if they haven't already. I'm wishing only the best. Please keep us posted!! Hugs, Irene |

I agree! Wow, my vet would have never said let's just wait 24 hours. No way. Lot's of options would have been layed out on the table right then. An x-ray would have been one of the first things to do after it was determined if there were live pups. I wouldn't wait either, and if you do not have another vet to get to, you do have a right to insist they do something to help your girl immediately. |
Um...I definately think you need to run, not walk to another vet NOW! I am sorry that your first pup was still born. Is there a breeder in your area (of ANY breed at this point) who would be willing to come assist you? I would definately get some help quick so you done risk losing the remaining pups and mother too. :( |
I would definitely get another vet on the phone...she needs help. How many pups did your vet say she was going to have? |
I hope you've taken these ladies' advice. They are very knowledgable. I'm sorry about your first pup :( Praying for a safe, healthy outcome for all.... |
I'm so sorry for the little boy pup. Any updates? |
whelping Please let us know how your girl is doing? I hope you have found a vet to give oxy shots or a section by now..I am concerned. Once labor starts, the sooner it is over, the better for mom and pups..by waiting, it risks the lives of the other pups. |
still no labor Lily is in the hospital now. I just couldnt wait any longer. Two injections to induce labor didnt give any results. I am waiting on the third one. I am hoping it will work. Otherwise she will need a c-section soon. When I took her for xrays last friday it showed 4 puppies, 3 clearly and 1 questionable. They did an ultrasound on her before I decided to induce the labor. It is hard to say how many of the puppies are still alive, I hope all of them, but we saw a normal heartbeat of one. Please pray for her and the puppies. |

I hope everything goes OK. You are far calmer than I would be...I would be a nervous wreck! I don't think I would possess the physical ability to even type. I assume your vet is giving you frequent phone calls with updates? |
