| Questions about heat I am totally new to this unspayd female dog thing so bare with me. I am wanting to know if my female is going into heat or already there. She is 7.5 months old and had recently been cleaning herself a lot......Also my male can not stay off of her....It isn't unusual for him to mount up a little but lately he has been whining if she won't let him do it and last night he kept me up until 2 chasing her and trying to mount up. I haven't noticed any blood coming from my female. But i have noticed intensive cleaning and my male mounting every thirty seconds....Please help educate me as to what is going on with my girl, I am totally lost. Thanks, Brett |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali went into heat a few weeks ago at 8 1/2 months. I noticed she was licking a lot down there and acting a little different. Wanting to go outside and she is trained for the inside. This was about a week before I noticed swelling and then a few days latr she started bleeding. I ended up having her spayed during her heat for other reasons. Ususally the want you to wait amonth after they come out of the heat to get them spayed.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | One of the breeders will give you much better advice than I, but what immediately comes to my mind.....is you'd better take measures to keep them apart. Either diaper her, put a belly band on him, or separate rooms if possible. If she is in heat, she's much too young to get pregnant..... Good luck PS You will usually notice bleeding when in heat....

| heat The reason you do not see any blood is most likely because she si keeping herself clean. You are going to have an accidental breeding if one or both is not altered asap. |

| I am buying a diaper TODAY!!!!!!!!! I have noticed she is swollen down there. I can't believe she is already in heat......she seems too young to me....but like humans i guess there isn't a set date on when you start.....I want to breed them but not until her second heat.....You don't think she is already pregnant do you??? How long does a heat cycle usually last? |

| Diapers and belly bands will not work to keep them apart. Please crate or keep in separate rooms. This girls is too young for pups and accidents happen quickly. If you actually do plan to breed her when she's older, you need to do a lot more homework. You should be very familiar with heat cycles/genetics/health backround of the pedigree of both sire and dam/and much, much more. You should try to find a mentor in your area to assist you. Please look over some of the threads on this issue here.

Donating YT 14K Club Member | A female heat lasts an average of 21 days (3 weeks) with the bitch being most fertile during the second week. It's not unheard of for girls to come in so early. My friend's dog came in at 6 months her first time.

| Thanks for the help guys.....I actually removed my male from my apartment. Friday night when I got home from work he was trying to mount so bad it was all I could do to keep them apart. So I put Karlee back in her crate and took Bentley to Kelly's aunt's house. I did this because I work on the weekends and Kelly is home by herself and I knew she couldn't keep them apart. We went and saw him yesterday and he is doing fine....He is coming home tonight because with two of us here we think it will be easier to keep them apart. We also bought a baby onesie for both of them to further prevent an accident. and Karlee will wear the diaper under hers to keep blood off the onesie. We are going to see how well we can keep them apart and if it becomes too much trouble he will go back to kelly's aunt's, or to my parents. We are bringing him home because kelly misses him too much. I miss him too, it's not the same with him not here. What signs should I notice with her to know when she is out of heat completely? does the swelling stay through the entire heat cycle? cause that would be the easiest way to tell |
