OMG, I didn't know that happened Irene! I've not been on the forum much lately. Trying to catch up some here. I am so sorry to hear that. It is tough when you lose them. I really didn't know and I feel so bad for you. :rose: :rose:

Thanks Melanie and Robbie. It was devistating. But it happens. My vet can run a progestrone through out pregnancy now to determine the pups are attached to the wall of the uterus. If not, they can give mom something. I was a mess when they were telling em about it so I dont' rememember specifics, but there is a way to prevent this. I will be doing that next time I breed Mandy.

Irene, I am sorry to hear about the litter..was it a Biewer litter? How did I miss this post?

Aww.thanks Pat. Nobody missed anything. This was the first I posted about it. No, it wasn't a Biewer litter. It was Mandy's litter. The repeat breeding that gave me Foster <sigh>.
I posted a while back when I ran her progestrone and when I bred her. I was soo looking foward to this litter.
Those sweet little boys, may they rest in peace. :cry:

I am so sorry...but I doubt they are doing much "resting"..knowing our little Yorkies, they are growing up fast in Yorkie Heaven.

Ah.thanks for the pleasant visual. I am thinking about 3 little 12wk old puppies running in the grass trying to catch a butterfly..puts a smile on my face. you're right Pat little heathens aren't resting one bit..they are Yorkies..lolol.

I have been very blessed so far in breeding. When I bred mini pins and now with the yorkies I have not lost a mother yet. I have lost one entire litter in the past which was devastating.. :( I know there are risks involved everytime we breed to the mother and then to our pups. This whole process is never easy and it is hard to lose any animal.

I can remember being involved with breeding way back when my mother bred poodles and assisting in these births as well and she lost a female either.

Irene, I am so sorry for your loss. Sometimes nature has it's way of taking care of things, but for all of us we have our emotional ties to these little ones and it is heartbreaking when they go to the rainbow bridge.

With the advances in anthesthia, it is less a danger then in past years when undergoing a c-section..and fortunately, many can be saved when in the past they could not.

There can also be other reasons for early delivary. Make sure and check with your vet on those as well and test your mom for them. So this is not an issue again. So far fingers crossed I have not personally had one come that early. But I can have some small ones when I have a large litter. Right now I am exhausted trying to stay ontop of 3 girls and 1 boy. Two of them are VERY tiny.... 1 1/4 ounces and 1 1/2 ounces. She went full term to. Just to many for her to carry as she is 5 lbs. Even though she free whelped, I would of been much happier with two big ones! :) Good reason not to breed them under 5 lbs. And she is such a wonderful first time mommy. :) So far they are still hanging in there and nursing. holding there weight. So maybe fingers crossed they will make it.
Loosing them can be very trying and emotionally draining.
And loosing a mom is horrific, as the memories never go away!

Oh wow...Irene I didn't know that and am so so sorry...that must have been just heartbreaking. :(
