YT 1000 Club Member | true weight Okay I have weighed Maggies Pups everyday to follow their weight gain and I weigh them at 7pm every evening while Maggie is eating her evening meal. Although sometimes she feeds the pups right before she gets her food and other times after she's eaten. So the question is this. Which weight do you go by the before feeding weight or the after feeding weight. I have had her do this a few times already and just when I think the pup has gained some I weigh them the next day and they are at the same weight as the previous day. I weighed them last night and 3 of them have a difference of 4 ozs. and the smallest one only 1/2 oz. So right now the pups growing patterns look like they are on a yoyo diet. Any advice will be appreciated. thank you |

| I weigh Fancee's pups at the same time each day, not knowing when they last ate, since she's available for them to eat whenever. I watch for weight loss more than weight gain. As long as they're not losing, I'm OK. |

| I'd have to agree. As long as their gaining and not losing I'd say you're ok.

| I doubt if the eat over an ounce at a time, in fact it's probably more like a half ounce. If there is steady weight gain then I would not be concerned. With the little one, I maybe would watch to see that he is not getting shoved aside. You might have to let him nurse by himself and keep the others away while he is eating. Quote:

| You should always weigh at the same time each day. I usually weigh in the morning. You are looking for weight loss between days and gains between weeks.

YT 1000 Club Member | Thank you all for your advice. Maybe I will weigh them in the mornings instead of the evenings. i am keeping track of their weights on a daily basis I was just wondering about the weighing patterns. All my years of having litters this has been the first time I ever weighed pups. This being my first Yorkie litter I wanted to make sure I went by the books. |

| I weigh them three times a day for the first week, it will give you some insight if a pup is not gaining like the others and who needs more teat time... keep record of each weighing, if you have a pup not gaining or losing then you know something might be wrong... The littlest one (1/2 ouncer) I would make sure she/he gets extra teat time as well give a nurtidrop on your finger and wipe on the tongue (2-3 times a day) also benibac, at least for the next 3-4 days until you see major gain. congrats and good luck

YT 1000 Club Member | I think I will clarify this so that there is no more confusion. With 3 of the pups weights there is a 4 oz difference in the weight before she fed them on the 10th and the weight after she fed them on the 9th. the smallest on there was only a half ounce difference in the 2 days. I weigh them at 7pm every evening when I give Maggie her food. Sometimes she has fed the pups before I give her the food at 7pm and sometimes she waits til after she has eaten to feed them. |
