Question about a breeder... before i put her name here i wanted to make sure it was ok to do so... i got my precious snickers from a local pet store (not knowing what i know now) that had assured me it used its own breeder... then after receiving the paperwork realized this breeder was from across the country and there was a 3rd party used to deliver the puppy (i'm guess it is what they call a "broker") Is it ok to post her name here and see if anyone has heard anything about her? Thanks.... |
Well, I think it would be OK, your not saying she bred unhealthy puppies you are saying she used a broker to sell them. I would want to know, as I don't feel that is the right thing to do when you breed dogs.. I as a small breeder want to know who has my puppies and what kind of place they are living in. So I would never sell my puppies through a broker. :( |
Yes, it's okay. We should post all experiences good and bad. |
breeder It will not hurt or help much I am sorry to say...these are commerical breeders who sell through brokers. If anyone has a problem with their pups, the shop owner contacts the broker, too many complaints and they go to another breeder who is the same type commerical breeder. JMO |
There is honestly not a reputable breeder that will sell their puppies to a broker or a pet store, sorry.. |
i didnt know then what i know now.... i wish i had come across this site sooner... does anyone know anything about a Betty Westhoff in Kansas? I'm not saying anything good or bad about her I just brought my puppy home on Friday and when looking for the local breeders name (I live in RI) found out it came from her in Kansas and it raised a red flag for me... Thanks for any help you could give... |

She probably sold thru Hunte Corp. the broker of up to 85,000 puppies to pet shops and well, they wholesale to any thing that will buy quantity from them. I will check out the USDA licensed breeders in Kansas...a wholesaler of puppies is supposed to be licensed by he USDA and have the same license as a cattle, horse, or goat rancher...I think. |

what does this mean? I am guessing that this listing is a bad thing.... I just want to know because i have heard bad things about pet-shop puppies and i am concerned health-wise for my new puppy |
Pet Shops.. We have a few pet shops in our area.. If I am in the area I always depress myself and go into the shops.. :( I have on every occassion ask the shop employee if they have the papers on the yorkies and they say have always shown them to me.. At that time I have been able to see who the breeder was, the state they were breed in and who delivered the puppies to the shop.. I can honestly say I have never seen a pup in a pet shop from a local owner, at least in our area.. I hope that your pup gives you wonderful years of love and companionship, they all deserve loving homes rather coming from pet shops or reputable breedes.. ;) Keep us updated on your puppy and we would love to see pictures! |
I don't recognize the name of the "pedigree service" you mention. Hunte is the only one I have seen as the supplier in pet shops here. And, the breeder has never been within hundreds of miles of the pet shop. I agree that the papers have always been shown to me IF I acted like I had an interest in the puppy. Of course, the pet shops who have asked me to leave after asking too many questions that tipped them off I was not buying, probably do not show paperwork so readily...LOL Being on that list is not in itself a bad thing, but what it implies is another story...Many millers and CBers have 500and up dogs and their names most definitely are on that list or their butts might be sitting in a cell that is still bigger than the cages they keep their animals in. |

My 5 year old Yorkie just died on Feb.9,2008. We got him at 8 months old. from a pet store in Brooklyn, New York, but he bred by Betty Westhoff.A few months after we bought him he'd wheeze when he got excited. This turned out to be a collapsed trachea, which he was under treatment for at the vet. The day he died we rushed him twice to the vet for this, but he still died. I am investigating her further. I'm ashamed to say that if your puppy was purchased from a pet store AND the breeder is from Kansas that it is probably a puppy mill baby. Kansas is one of the few states that actually protects puppy mills. I'm pretty sure that my Easter puppy is also a puppy mill baby. He was rehomed with us and his original owner got him in South East Kansas. I love him all the same, but I too worry about his health. :( |

I can tell you that I have a female yorkshire named Buttons - she was bred by Betty Westhoff of Kansas. I have had my dog for about 8 years now and she has been healthy throughout. Does any one have a dog bred by her that is doing well? I would love to know..Allykathart:):animal-pa |

This thread is old, but it's always good to remind people not to buy from petstores ! I'm sure with the 500 dogs she has, some pups will be healthy. There were 357 adult dogs on the premises, 39 weaned puppies and 108 puppies, which totals 504 dogs. Again, it's not only about the health of the puppy, we have to think about where the puppies come from. Supporting pet stores only adds to the suffering of all the mom's and dad's of these puppies being kept in small cages, never to be able to get out and play or have human contact. |

I just came across this thread when I was googling "Betty Westhoff" Last night I was visiting my grandparents and they bought a Pomeranian 5 years ago from a couple who didn't say where they had gotten the Pom from. When I was there last night we were going through his medical records, and we came across the paperwork they got with him, it turns out he came from Betty Westhoff, he is AKC registered, but he was actually sold from the broker "BJ and Guys" It is so sad reading more about betty online, I read a report from 2004 where she had over 350 dogs, was USDA inspected, I don't want to call her a puppy mill but she had many problems with her facilities that needed to be fixed from what the report was saying, she had over 100 puppies, some sickly. My grandparents Pomeranian's behavior and health is understandable now, he has horrible luxating patellas and is going to likely have one leg amputated, he also doesn't have the best of temperaments despite being socialized. |
My Yorkie is from BJ'S and Guys in Kansas..I live in New York I hope people still read this post.My baby Kylie is from BJ'S & Guys.Im so worried now. What should I look out for?Wish I had read this post before hand. |
