Trade Yorkie pup for new web site??
 

Hello everyone! I have a unique situation. I have always been a lover of big dogs. Particularly a lover of Argentine Dogos. My sweet boy, a Dogo, passed away back in April of 2005. I felt like my child was taken from me! I decided to wait a while before I got another dog. Recently, my fiance's aunt got a baby Yorkie. This was the second time I had ever been in the presence of a Yorkie as my friend had one when I was 17. I immediately fell in love with aunt Peggy's little Yorkie!

I have decided that I would like to get a new Yorkie pup. However, I am just starting out my web design/hosting business and cannot afford to fork out $600. Right now I am developing my design portfolio and am wondering if there is anyone out there that might be willing to trade for a top-of-the-line web site??? I know this may sound strange, but I know a lot of breeders would benefit from a really good web site. I am not looking to make any money for this and this is not an attempt to advertise for myself. Personally I don't think it is a good idea for you to get a dog right now since you don't even have enough money to get one. Having a dog, as you probably know, the cost is more than the amount you pay for the dog itself. There's also medical bills (especially for a puppy), food (but I doubt that would be a problem), and other extra unexpected costs. I'm sure if you want a puppy you want to give it the best and provide a good home so it'll grow up as a happy and healthy puppy.

But again, that is just my opinion. If you do decide to get one, I wish you guys the best of luck and I hope you do find a puppy thats right for u!

hello and welcome. Hope this doesn't sound harsh but my website and hosting, done by top of the line professionals, is only going to cost me $150.00 for five pages. My yorkies, when I have any, won't be nearly that cheap. But, maybe something will work out for you or you can save your money up and purchase one.

I am not broke. I have plenty of savings and also credit cards for emergency purposes. I simply thought it would be better for me to trade so that I am not going into my savings. This way, I DO have funds in the event of a medical emergency. I have been building my savings back up since the death of my last dog in April. He had a life-long history (from birth) of medical conditions to which I was always giving medication. I had to treat him for a skin condition that never went away and hip displaysia. He was 145lbs so medication was not cheap. In the end he collapsed from a spinal injury. I paid $4,000 just for the spinal injury by itself just to find out that it was best to put him down anyway. It was the most horrifying, stressful time of my life and the worst decision I have EVER had to make. I would have sold my house if it would have kept him alive. So please, do not think that I am unaware of the expenses that may arise.

I also took the time to research this breed before making the decision to get one. I am aware of the associated medical conditions such as liver shunt and joint problems, among others. I also took the time to learn the symptoms and what to watch for.

I have always been a dog lover. I was the dispatcher for the animal cruelty investigation unit at the Capital Area Humane Society in Ohio and a dog groomer at a local kennel. I know how to care for animals.

As for the comment about the $150 web site, there is a big difference between your basic cheap HTML web site and the fully animated Flash web sites that I create. My sites do not have "pages", they are Flash "movies". Web sites of that calibur range anywhere from $700 to $2,000 based on complexity. If you look at my profile on my site, my prices for those sites range from $600 to $1,000. They are nothing like your typical web site! I am using the latest technology in web site animation and it doesn't get any better then that. Believe me, if I were to make a site for a breeder, it would stand apart from the rest. If there is someone out there that wants a basic HTML site instead, then I do those for $200 and would be glad to pay the difference for a Yorkie.

I understand the concern that a lot of people have for the welfare of dogs and I do not blame anyone for being suspicious of my request. It's a scary world out there and I have seen first hand what misery incompetant owners can cause. I am not that person. All of my dogs have led great lives as indoor dogs with all the necessary love and medical attention. I simply was curious if someone would want to trade or not. If I do not find someone interested in my offer, then yes, I am going to pay to buy a Yorkie.

Nice to see someone not get offended when questioned about motivation, intentions etc..and instead answer reasonably with explanations that show thoughtful understanding about why the questions were asked. Well done.

You should not have to justify your trade offer in a public forum, Jessica but since you have done so I applaud your explanations.
Bartering is accepted and fun for anyone involved, there is no reason to doubt your integrity for suggesting such a trade.
Good luck to you and I feel for the grief you suffered losing your dog. 'I have been there several times myself and the pain is unbearable.

Sometimes on YT, and other places where there is written communication for that matter, things can be taken sarcastically even if they are not meant to be. I'm NOT saying that what was said on here about your trade was are was not meant to be sarcastic. All I can say is you never can tell how the person "sounds" when they are writing. I've been on both sides and I know how you feel. I usually jump to defend myself (and when I do it's usually sarcastic :animal36) But I do have to agree that you handled yourself very professionally. I hope you find yourself a Yorkie!!!

jessica it was not my inention to offend and I am so sorry you were offended at my post. no way was i suspicious of your post. I am sure you will be a good yorkie mommy. i was not aware that you charge 2,000 to build a website and that's why I made the remark I did. Anyway, the cheaper one suites me and my needs just fine and they look really nice and very similar to what most people on here have. it will serve my purpose and look very nice too. Again, I am sorry you were offended. I am also sorry about the loss of your dogs. That is a hard thing to go thru. I am glad you told us more about yourself. I see on another thread (started by me) that you are a do-it-yourselfer. WOW, you are a woman of many talents.

Hi! I agree with Stormy, you don't have to justify yourself to anyone here. That being said, welcome to YT :p . Yorkies are a wonderful breed and I came to have one myself after the loss of my beloved pug. I'm sorry for your loss and hope you find hapiness again with your new puppy. You will find the right doggie for you and when you do, come onto the boards and post pics. Keep us updated and let us know how your search continues.

I must say that I am really suprised at the response this thread has received! Thanks to everyone for the tremendous support and kind words!

First, I would like everyone to know that I was not offended by anyone's comments. I completely understand that everyone is just looking out for the well being of these innocent pups. "Sugar's Mom", I am not offended at all. I realize that the way I worded my original post left me open for some scrutiny. It would have helped if I had maybe been a little more informative.

It is true that I do not "need" to justify myself, but this is a community of friends, I am the new person, and I would like to treat it with such respect. No one here knows me yet. Rather then be negative or ignore the concerns of other members, I feel it's best to address the situation in a mature manner. I have no problem being open and honest about who I am and what my intentions are.

I hope to remain an active member and participate in all the excitement, no matter if I get a Yorkie tomorrow or a year from now. I am just excited to see how things turn out and you better believe I will post lots of pictures when I do find my new baby! After all, I LOVE photography too! ;)

I am sure you will like it here. There are some that will argue to their dealths with people on certain topics, but we all need to get along and consider each others feelings.
I am sure the concern was in fact done with good intentions. These little ones are such precious babies and yorkies are just not like any other breed so people do sometimes jump the gun so to speak.

I agree...Not only do you have to pay for their necessities, but you have to also pay for all their shots and rabies, and the unexpected stuff like double teeth! Precious has 6 that need to be taken out! Plus are you going to get it fixed? You should wait a little bit and save up some money!

I would have much rather sold our last pup to you (from my mother's litter before I got Jolene) than to the jerk that pretended to be nice and turn out to be a JERK that bought him. FOr the deal they got, I could have a nice site and you could have money in your pocket for shots!!!

I think you may have missed her post where she explains she can afford it. Second I dont think I read anywhere in the yorkie hand book that states you have to be rich to enjoy the pleasure of being a yorkie owner. A lot of people barter services and products, It's how people did it in the olden days and i think it's great that people are starting to do it again.

First of all I want to say how sorry I am for your loss of your pet last April, I hope you are able to find a puppy soon, you definately sound like a person with a lot of love to give to one. Yorkies are so precious, this is a very good site. We found it after the loss of our Cassie in November. I don't get on the computer very much just emailing and now YT once in awhile. As I said before hope you find your new baby soon, Yorkies are such a joy.

I have a question for all of you though. I posted this earlier in someone else's thread who was in search of a Yorkie for less then $500. Initially I thought the going rate was about $700, but I see I may be wrong.

I am searching for a Yorkie myself and am not sure what to make of these price differences. There are currently 8 ads in the Columbus Dispatch (OH) for Yorkie pups ranging from $500 to $700, and then there was one ad for $800, and one for $1,000. I have spoke with a few others who sell their Yorkies for $1,500 or more. Does anyone have any opinion about the large amount of pups for under $700 in the newspaper? They are not duplicate phone numbers either. I am wondering if some of these people might just be trying to make money and aren't really educated breeders? That kind of person wouldn't care about the bad genes and overbreeding. But how do you tell the difference between the good and the bad breeders other then the obvious? I mean, I know that you have to ask tons of questions, but some people are just really good scammers. Scary.

So sorry to hear about your bad experience. I have had some bad experiences on the other end of things. When I bought my first Dogo he had numorous genetic medical issues and it was an ongoing battle between me and the breeder. It's terrible when you have to deal with unreasonable people with bad attitudes!

Hi and Welcome - I wanted to add - before my husband became ill he would barter with ANYONE - my favorite was when he'd barter with the Perfume Wholesalers ! lol- I have a perfume FETISH - and when we first got together... he made great friends with a dealer in exchange for remodeling his store - needless to say - I have a TON of perfume from that :D :D :D
