my dog is in labor??????
 
i need to ask everyone a question, after my baby starts pushing, how long should i let her try to have her babies on her own before i call the vets? she has started pushing now? every 45 seconds she pushes. :confused: :confused: :confused:

20 minutes pushing without a pup warrants a call to the vet

Note # If the Dam is pushing and grunting and crying out in pain
that lasts for over an hour with no visible pup,
you maybe in trouble.
This is when you need to search your gut.
Ask yourself, How do you feel?
Do you feel you are safe or in trouble.
Go by your gut instinct.
Read the Dams signs, her body is talking to you.
She is probably safe if she is napping between contractions,
but if is she becoming exhausted from constant pushing and straining,
if she appears close to collapse you maybe in trouble?
She is telling you something is wrong and a puppy maybe to large to pass thru her pelvis.
If you feel you are in trouble. Call your Vet and get ready to seek help.

i'm scared, this is her first litter so i don't know what to expect..i know everytime she pushes she gets up and walks in cicles and then licks herself :confused:

Try to stay calm. if you dont it will make the momma very nerves.
How long has she been doing the pushing?

That is a good site but I don't know if I could let mine push and strain for an hour. In the past, I've found that with my litters...whether yorkies or whatever...once pushing and straining occurs, pups will show up within 20 minutes...30 max. I would worry if she went longer. Just thinking that they don't have epidurals or pain killers. It's all real to them!

They will do that because they are uncomfortable. It's normal.

Some bitches will deliver standing up and some prefer to lay down.

This is called prelabor...Is this what she is doing? or is it more like Stage 3 below?

Stage 2 - pre labor

Digging
Shivering
Panting
Staring at her rear end
Licking vulva excessively
Mild Uterine Contractions

Stage 3 - Labor

Hard Uterine Contractions
Extreme Shivering
Water Breaking
Grunting and pushing
Visible sign of the First pup and delivery (Whelp)
But with out any signs of pup?

Im sure glad you are here to help her. whew. lol Im better at doing it then wording it. and not sure what advice to give when not being able to see whats going on myself.

Your first grandogger!!!!!!!!! Make sure to keep pup warm and by mom but when mom starts to contract and push again, it's safe to move pup to a box with heating pad underneath while mom is getting second pup out. After each pup, you can put pups back in with mom but when she's pushing, it helps to not have them in the way.

we got 2 boys ans one girl. i don't know if she is done yet though..seems like she is done.. once the first one came the rest just fallowed like every couple minutes... i'm so happy. i'm a grandma :D :D :D :D :D

so far 3 boys and 1 girl. how great this is..seems like alot of babies were born today. her belly is hard on the bottom so there might be one more. i hope i get another girl but if not i'm still happy :D :thumbup:
