I used to breed & show Persians. With cats, they ovulate after being bred. If you want to bring a cat OUT of heat, you use a Qtip to 'mate' with her. Then she will ovulate and be done with her cycle. I had one cat that would run if she saw a Qtip- she wanted the real thing! |
I have not checked this out, but doesn't AKC allow for registry of a litter with multiple fathers if DNA is done and proof of purebred status is given? Pat, does that sound familiar? Breeders who have an excellent bitch and wants to use 2 different studs to get the best chance of having great quality pups could breed and register all of the litter to their individual sires if what I think is really true. Of course, my swiss cheese brain could have filtered out the most important issues. LOL |
Good Grief, at my age and I am getting lessons in the birds and the bees :D |
I would say yes, only because my moms old yellow lab was pregnant when we adopted her off the streets. Little did we know though she was due with sixteen puppies. That's right sixteen puppies! only one died and we had to bottle feed some. She had rotties, bulldogs, looked like cockers, and labs. Probably more, but it was a long time ago. Definitly possible. |
Kimberley, the woman never thought of the two sire issue..she just looked at the pups and picked a dad I guess to use on AKC. RiniW..you are right AKC will accept more then one sire for a litter with DNA proff..BUT I would just forget it and let them go with no papers..would you really want to tell AKC you have no idea who the sire of your puppies are??? LOL They might get the idea things are a bit messed up in the kennel..LOL |
My lips would be sealed unless I had planned and broadcast way ahead that I was intending to do that. LOL |

That's so crazy. I've never heard of that before...i guess it is possible! That is wonderful the parents of the human babies accept them as their own etc. :) |

pups Good one...LOL A friend asked to use my champion, Chopper for stud some years ago. Her Yorkie male was neutered, so he was no problem, BUT she had an unaltered Maltese. She promised she would not allow her Malt in the house..he would stay downstairs in her daughters basement apartment. When the pups were born they were not 100% Yorkie..the gold was white. I knew her Maltese got to the Yorkie. My friend was so excited to have a champ-sired litter, it was hard for me to tell her I would not sign the AKC papers to register the litter..I dreaded it...but when I went to dock the tails at 4 days, my friend said she suspected an "accident" had happened...so she sold them as "Morkies"..if her male Yorkie was not neutered, who knows that they would have been...that is why many breeders insist on the bitch owner leaving the female until she goes out of heat if they have other males..we want to know our male actually sired the litter...and what breeder wants to pay for another breeders stud, when their male was the sire??? |
a vet told me that happens. He said it happens a lot with females that are out around a lot of males and then they'll have a "variety" litter. It has something ot do with the eggs being let down at different times and the sperm being mobile for longer than you'd think. |
