mom needs a bath/and pups 1st vacc I have a couple of questions - one is easy I hope and the other I hope to get some advice on. The first one is when do you typically give your new moms a good bath - how old do the pups need to be before she can be away long enough to get a bath a blow dry and quick brushing? The second is first vacc's for pups. I have read everything I can find on the subject and a lot of stuff contradicts itself. I am just curious as to what some of you do - how old for first ones and which ones? I know most everyone is waithing until 8 weeks now. The babies are 1 week and two days old and are gaining weight and are beautiful little wiggle worms and at their vet visit everything went fine and they are all healthy as can be

I wash my mom's backside after whelping..then wait about a week and give her a full bath. I can groom very fast and have her back in the bed, dry and clean in 30 mins...but even an hour will nto hurt...let them nurse and then do it..make sure they are on a warming pad. More and more vets and breeders are waiting on shots...I used to start at 6 weeks..but have moves it to 8 or 9 weeks...lots of internet info on what giving too early does to the immune system..good luck

I gave my mom a bath about a week after the birth of her pups but did clean her bottom up before that. As far as vaccinations, my vet won't do them until the puppies are 8 weeks old. I thought that was late but it sesems to be the consensus now. | |

Yep. seems we do the same things. My moms get their backsides cleaned up after the delivery. They can get pretty gross. I use baby wipes after that and keep the discharge wiped away. I am flexible about when to actually bathe the mom-- My vaccines are always given after 8 weeks. There can be so many problems with their immune system if given too early..I do not give Lepto-ever- and corona, well, never, either. Te recommendations say that these 2 need to be given only if you live in an area where there are issues with these 2 diseases..

Great - that is what I did I washed her backside after delivery and have been cleaning her as needed with baby wipes so tomorrow I will give her a good bath - and I can groom pretty fast myself so that is a good thing probably 30 min but no longer that 45 min. As far as the vaccines go I had already talked to my vet about waiting until 8 weeks and new about now lepto but was unsure about the corona - so thanks!! Thank you everyone for the replies!!!

I gave my lil mama a bath already. The Vet said it's fine but just make sure to rinse the teats area extra good to get off all soaps.
