Help, anyone with males!! Harley will not stop marking! He has done it for the last 4 months!!! Hubby is getting frustrated and threatening to ban him to the backyard. Are there any "secrets" to stopping this?? I have tried bellybands, but he soaks through them (yuck) Is there anything you can spray?? |
Is your male fixed. If not sometimes this solves the problem. If that is not an option or he is fixed, try putting a nursing pad in the belly band. He won't get it soaked so fast. I'm sure there is something that you can spray. However, you may end up having to spray every surface in your house. Best of luck. |
Yeah, I am not wanting to get him fixed. I would like at least one litter b/f I do. I will try the nursing pad. Hopefully this will end soon! Thanks for your advice! |
marking If you use an absorbant pad, they will not leak..I have a friend who has kept her male in belly bands for 4 years and he is very clean. Do you have your own female? Can he sire a litter soon? I ask because putting off neutering will only make your problem 10 times harder to solve in the future. Good luck |
Yep, we own both dogs. Yes, hopefully she will come in around the end of the month. I even tried one of those super absorbant pads and he soaked it. I think he is doing it on purpose, like to get attention. Is that possible? B/c when we go somewhere, doesn't even attempt to do this!!! |
He is not doing this to get attention from you. This is a natural behavior from an unneutered male and will only increase if you use him for a stud, even just once. |
I highly reccomend using disposable human baby diapers....we've been using them on Bailey and Charlie and they are working wonderful.....it has nearly eliminated the leg hiking in the house, they don't leak or rub them raw on their tummy and best thing is you don't have to wash them. |
I use belly bands made of silk with a poise panty liner. It has been my experience that silk doesn't mat the hair and isn't irritating. I change the pads frequently to avoid irritation. Peppy is a small, 3 3/4 lbs. on a very good day after dinner and before pooping. He has learned the great art of saving pee, so with him it is literally a drop her and a drop there. He doesn't like the belly bands and is getting much better, in fact, he hasn't worn them in a couple of days and I haven't seen any dribble marks anywhere. When I see leg lifting, on goes the belly band and down comes the leg. LOL What games we play with our furkids. |
Make sure your pads are for urinary incontinence. The period pads aren't absorbant enough. I cut Willie's in half cross-wise and that covers plenty of area. He's been using the belly-band and pads for about two years now. Good Luck and keep trying! :animal36 |
Thanks guys, I didn't think about incontinence pads...gues I am going to walmart. Maybe I am not putting it on right. How does a belly band REALLY go on?? |
Mine are a band made of 100% silk that go around the tummy and fasten on the back with velcro. they are three layers thick and have a "pocket on the "target area" for sticking the Poise pad. I NEVER use regular panti liners, only the ones make to collect urine. |
I even use bellybands on my standard poodle for the nighttime and I use two "overnght pads" inside the pocket that my bellybands have. He rarely goes in them but if he does those two pads are more than enough absortion even for a big dog his size. I use a smaller pad for the yorkies obviously but I have never had one leak if they pee'd in it. |
I was wondering if my male is the "only" exception to the rule of marking. My male will mark outside but I have never seen him mark inside and I'm home all day long. Am I just lucky or is there others that have males that don't mark?.....oh, and yes, I do use him as a stud. |
3 Attachment(s) Bentley hasn't been neutered and he is two years old and he doesn't mark in the house either. :) ok...I'm gonna push using the human baby diapers one more time, LOL :p I keep telling everyone how wonderful they are but nobody seems to be interested...so here are a few pics of Charlie in his diaper so you can see what they look like on...I put them on just like a belly band. The stress levels at our house in the past because of the puppies marking everywhere has been completely eliminated since we started using these diapers and a BIG plus for me is I don't have to change pads, worry about leakage, OR wash the belly bands...the diapers are DISPOSABLE, cheap and convenient....and I think they look just as cute as the belly bands!!! In my opinion it just couldn't be any easier than using these :) Edited to say that Charlie still has his "jewels" but I erased them to protect his privacy :D |
Would having a belly band with a plastic liner help? I made some like that, by request, from a relative of mine who has 2 stud males. |
