Default prices on Websites?

I read with interest the thread where the person posted her prices on her website. Most of you don't agree with this. As a potential future breeder, I would like to know why. This is a sincere question as I don't see anything wrong with it unless you guys give me a good reason why not. I had planned on having a website with info about yorkies, my yorkies, my pups for sale with prices and an adoption contract and of course a contact me place. i have no intention of taking credit cards. too compicated for me, but I do have a paypal account which I think is safrer than a personal check. My husband has been burnt a few times on his beagles with checks. i figure if I post prices this will weed out the buyer that is not serious and i shouldn't get a million emails or calls from people that are "just looking'. Any info will be helpful to me. Thanks

I feel the same way..I don't see anything wrong with posting prices.
I prefer to see a pics of the Pup, and the parents, pedigree's, info on parents sizes, pup's age, weight, info on the breeders breeding pratices and the prices.
It does let someone know what the pup should look like grown and about the size it should be. Gives the buyer a feel for the breeder and if the pup is in their price range.
I think it would save a lot of unwanted time for both the breeder and the buyer. But that's just MHO..

when we post our beagles for sale, we always put the price and it is non-negotiable(sp). i think it helps a lot and i am just trying to understand why not. Don't want to start a war or anything. i honestly want to know because I know for sure that not everyone that posts prices are scammers or bad breeders.

Yeah I prefer to see prices too. I need to know off the back if I can even afford one of your pups. It will be a waste of my time and yours to call and I can't even afford one.

I don't post prices and I don't care why others don't think I should. Don't worry about what others think. If you want to, post them.

But, I guess what I'm asking is, what is your reasoning? if it's personal and you don't want to say, that's alright too. i just don't want to do something that is not the right thing to do. Course It will be a long time before I have any for sale unless Silk comes in season. At her age, she may not. I'm not counting on it.

Personally, I think it's tacky and is used for sales purposes only $$ signs and numbers are just terrible. Now please dont' take offense of what I say. This is my opinon and what I ldon't like to see when looking at my website. I dont' care what others view me as..am I making sense?

I don't have a web site, yet. Hope to have one soon. I will post prices. IMO having a price does indeed rule out people that don't have the money.Besides,I don't want to shop for something if I can't afford it. W/out price how would I know?

Yes.. you are right..and most buyers I think would agree..
They would like to know the price of the pup they are looking at.
I don't waste my time looking at webites that do not post prices.
I think alot of it has to do with the breeder and the fact they don't have set prices.
They will charge more.. for a better looking dog they think maybe show quality.
I won't deal with anyone who lies to me, seem snobby, thinks they are better then everyone else or is down right rude.

I spoke to a woman a while back who had a 3-1/2 little AKC male stud for sale.
I e-mail her to ask about the dog..Ask if she would be interested in trading for a female. I told her about my family, and I was looking for a smaller proven male that would compliment my females.
She e-mails me back and says she has decides to only sell him without papers..
I ask why... Is there was something wrong with his papers, his health or you just don't want him used for breeding.
She tell me he has no health problems or nothing is wrong with his papers.
but wanted to know if I was still interest in trading my female for him...
She would not answer my question..WHY.. she advertised him with full registery, then changed her mind.
I went with my gut feeling that something wasn't right
and
Told her.. Thank You ... I'm sorry but I'm not interested..
I'm looking on puppyfind and I see where she has him for 1000 dollars more with full breeding rights....

When I was looking for my girl I e-mailed some of the so-called reputable breeders who either didn't have web sites, or didn't post prices on their sites. A surprising number of them never got back to me, and a couple got back to me with ridiculously high prices. One would be happy to accept my $600 deposit towards a 3 year waiting period! While I was more than willing to pay a fair price and wait a reasonable amount of time, I began to feel like those not listing prices were hiding something (super high prices, no puppies available in the reasonable future) I felt the whole process was defeating and a waste of time, and I ended up getting my girl from a local breeder who's name I got while I was visiting the dog park. If I'm ever searching the web for a puppy again, you better believe one thing I'm going to want to see is price!

I'm not getting a puppy at this time...but I was looking a while back...

I know I prefer to see prices somewhere - if I see a site with no prices at all ...I usually just think they must must be of my reach... so I keep looking....

I'm another one that will not pursue anything without a price listed. I would just assume that if the price isn't listed than the puppy must be priced very high. I would also be embarrassed if I called and was quoted $3000.00 and had to say it was out of my price range. Also since they are higher priced in some states I feel like maybe if I called on them, the price quoted might be more based on where I live.

My thoughts exactly. Price isn't everything, but it is nice to know whether or not you can afford someone's dogs, before you start asking about them. And as for me, I don't start asking until WAY into my conversation with a breeder, because I don't want them to get the impression that price is all I care about.

What I would like to see when I look at someone's site, if they can't state specific prices is a range. Say, like from $1250-$1500, that way you at least know if they're in your range or not, and the breeders still have a range if they think one has better qualities then the others...

Hmmm Well i can see both sides of this one.
I understand how a breeder may want to talk with an applicant .
I also can see how a purchaser might not wish to call if the pup was out of price range and then have to feel embarrassed telling the breeder it was too much money for them.

I myself had skipped most of the breeders without prices posted when I was looking but did call or email a few without prices... and to tell the truth..... everyone I called without prices listed was a higher price range and I had to feel STUPID saying it was too much. It always made me feel like a loser even though I can provide a good home and pay a medium price. I usually just told them thank you and they had lovely pups and politely hung up.....but I did surely feel DUMB each time
