| Layla Pregnant!?! Day 38 or so? Well she was with her stud from Jan 30- Feb 4th so I wasn't sure if she would turn out pregnant bc she's had a false pregnancy last heat. She just turned 3 on Nov 1st and this heat was way different then before and actually a lot more swelling and visible blood this time. So today I'm thinking she's about day 38 or so, we had been skeptical about her being pregnant because they never tied for more then 20 seconds that we ever saw and we were around almost 24/7. This past week she's gained a pound and shows a lot more signs for confirmation so much so she won't even lay belly up for us anymore and she always did before bc she loved her belly and neck rubbed. Her ribs are wider, belly a little bigger and hard, tits pink and developing milk, becoming very territorial, even her hair is growing faster and she's starting to want to nest. She sleeps with us in bed and she's all over the place she's like a woman 9 months pregnant and can't get comfortable. Lol I just tried giving her cottage cheese today and she didn't really care for it, tomorrow I'm going to try some yogurt. She's not eating her dog food as much as we think she should, kind of seems like she's eating less. I'm worried about her eating...we have her on wellness puppy food right now and giving her wellness puppy treats. Is there any recommendations or suggestions anyone has for us? I'm taking her to the vet tomorrow to confirm pregnancy and request either a sonogram or X-ray to see how many and if all is ok, bc she's seems like she's in pain sometimes during the day...is low dose/baby aspirin safe to give her for pain? What do you suggest I give her to eat more of and to prepare and help for her lactating? I can't believe it's less then 3 weeks away already!!! Ill post pics in next post below...

| She does look pregnant to me. Why do you think she is in pain? You need to talk to your vet about this. How much does she weigh? I don't think it would be good to give her any kind of medication while she is pregnant without talking to your vet first.

| I wouldnt give her any kind of medication without a vet. I, too, am curious why you think she's in pain? To me, she doesnt look big enough to be miserably uncomfortable. Its too soon for an x-ray. My vet recommends x-rays be done after day 57 to get an accurate head size. Its too soon for the bones to be calcified yet so they wouldnt show up on an x-ray. I can only speak from my experience..my vet doesnt like to stress the dam out and send her into labor too soon...thats another reason why to wait on that x-ray. Try giving your girl some warm cooked chicken. |

| Sonogram today!!! Well we took Layla to the vet today to have a sonogram done since it wasn't too much more then the X-ray fee and it was more accurate according to the vet. Well we found 3 pups there may be a forth behind one of them. There is one on top that is in the middle just under her ribs that is sideways and kicking up a storm, the vet said this could be why she's been uncomfortable or in a little pain and another pup could be hidden behind that one we couldn't tell because it was sideways taking up all that space. Also, we were able to see the pups heads, body's, limbs, and even their spines! It was neat seeing them kick already! We were told not to give her any medication good thing it was only given twice and just try to make her comfortable. The vet said her lack of eating like she normally would, could be because of that active pup on top squashing her stomach so she's filling up quicker then usually but hopefully it will turn and she will start becoming more hungry. According to the vets scale she's only gained 1 lb since December but my scale says almost 2 lbs. She wobbles when she walks, and is a lot less active and doesn't really want to move around anywhere except on the bed or to another location to sleep. The two pups below are in the right positions for delivery and we are hoping they stay that way, I think though the movement of the sono today may have helped that top pup move or turn because she ate more after and has slept better without being so restless. Now tomorrow I'm going to start getting the corner of my bedroom prepared with her bed in her kennel and put a cover over the sides so she can feel some enclosure because she's been territorial with our Maltese. We've been keeping her in our bedroom where she prefers to be anyways and our Maltese is staying in my 16 yr olds room with her. I still have the food bowls in the kitchen but also have a set up in my room as well for her with her own bowls, so I will be putting all that together surrounded by an enclosure when the pups arrive. She'll have about at least a 4x4 space all to herself in the back corner of my room for privacy and it's right next to my side of the bed so I can keep an eye on her. So yes it's confirmed, I'm going to be a grandma of at least 3 baby's!!! I'm so excited!!!

We are getting a male from the breeder who bred her dad with different parents in about 6-7 weeks...that's going to be fun keeping a 13 week old around newborns. Lol I have a doggy portable play pen, it's like a child's portable play pen but smaller, but I just bought a small pet enclosure that I found on clearance for $10 at petco so I think I'm going to utilize that instead to enclose them to keep my Maltese and the new pup away. I'm glad I have my husband home with me all day and then my teenagers to help me in the evenings. Haha

| She had another sono to make sure all was good to go and it's looking more like 4 pups...we're at days 57-62 right now and she's showing signs of mild labor, the lowest her temp has been was 97.8 so crossing fingers that's its real soon!!! it's just getting harder and harder for me to take her temp.

| An xray is indcated rather than an ultrasound at this stage...you can them measure pelvic ring ration to puppies, to determine if heads and shoulders will fit thru the birth canal. |
