whelping and bordom My girl is having pups tonight..or should i say this morning??!! Im sitting on the laundry room floor with my laptop waiting..waiting.....and then waiting. My girl had her temp drop today. Tonight she's panting and digging. Just when i get excited thinking something is happening, I discover she's just hiding her treats or has to vomit. p.s. Not only is it lonely and boring...its getting stinky in here. |
I went on a treat hunt. I found 11 strategically hidden throughout this room. She's pretty good at this. There is nothing in his laundry/powder room except food/water dishes, whelping box, and a toilet bowl brush container. I have a sneaking suspicion that there is another under the dryer that she cant get to. Now that those are up, maybe she can focus on the task at hand. We haven't had pups in 3 years. If I did this more often, I'd put a gaming chair, a fridge and a tv in here. Its too bad this is the middle of the night and my "relief/assistant" took an ambien while i was drinking a gallon of coffee. I think its time to fire the help. What do you guys do to pass the time while waiting for the big moment? |
I talk to momma and rub her tummy....this is the part I hate....she gets so restless, I get so sleepy....my "hired hands" all go on to bed and its just me and momma..... |
some puppies, can't wait to see them. hopefully your baby has a safe whelp, the waiting is tire some, but look what you will have in the end, beautiful puppies. How old is your momma? you said you breed every three year's. Do you breed the same dog every 3 year's? Do you know how many puppies she is gonna have? Will be keeping you and your babie's in my prayer's. Have a good day. Anne/Luci |

Uggh...i gotta charge my laptop. I'll post an update when I can. p.s. I found ANOTHER treat. |
Looking for update.............??? |
My girl had to have a C-section this morning. The two pups tried to present at the same time. The vet managed to get them aligned and jump started labor again (it had stalled) but ended up doing a c-section. One pup only lived a short time after birth. The surviving pup is doing well. She's big at 5.3 oz. They've only been home about 2 hours. Mom is somewhat bonding with her baby but, unfortunately, she doesnt have ANY milk and we're supplementing. The emergency vet didnt think her milk would come in at all, but the pup is still trying to nurse and mom is letting her. Mom is drinking water but doesnt want to try anything else yet. |
Thank goodness momma is doing well....praying for the surviving baby. I am hoping you are using one of the formulas given here.......much better than just straight canned puppy milk. If baby starts loosing weight, do you know how to tube feed? |

Excellent!! Such a relief! I am not sure why the vet seems to think no milk will be produced at all.....I think if that baby continues to suckle and mom continues to bond with her baby, her milk will indeed come in. |
Sorry for your loss. Hope everything else goes well with your mama and baby. I just had two litters of puppies from our fosters. Now 2 weeks and 4 weeks old and luckily everybody is doing fine. As for the board of I kinda like being there by myself. It's a bonding experience that few people ever get to experience. I just make sure I have my supplies on hand, a book in case it gets too long,a cooler of ice cold Diet Coke, and a charged cell phone to call in the troops if there's an emergency or I need to take care of the issues caused by the diet coke. |
Congratulations on the birth (finally) of the pups. Glad to hear that mommy is doing well with the surviving pup. I am so very sorry for the loss of that one tiny wee life. It is so gut wrenching to lose a babe at birth. Don't give up on her milk coming in. After feeding the pup, encourage him/her to suck. |
