| you shouldn't soak yorkie puppies food in milk. It can upset their little tummies. get some Esbiliac puppy supplement. Walmart has it a little cheaper than vets. When mine start getting in mom's food is when I start feeding. Mine are five weeks old now and just this morning had kibbles and puppy supplement for the first time. I put a cup of kibbles (so I have leftover) in my food processor and get it really fine, then soak it in water till soft, then add some puppy supplement. mine weren't too interested but they did eat some of it. You might have to hand feed or put it on your fingers and let them lick it off. Now, having said that, all this past week, they have had a mixture of Gerber baby rice cereal, mixed with warm water, puppy supplement and a few drops of karo syrup. Not much. You mix it until it is like gravy. yesterday, i put just a bite of wet puppy ceasers in the mix then this morning went to the kibble and supplement. i will do this about a week, then they will go on the dry ground kibble only until I am sure they won't get choked then we will go to dry kibble and still put mom in every two hours. Right now, mom is only away long enough to potty. That will all change tomorrow when I start taking mom out for a couple of hours, in a couple of hours and gradually have mom out all the time except at night. This is what works for me. others may do it differently. |

Yorkie Yakker | On Weaning six week old puppies I am not an expert and neither is my firs time mommy Zoie who had five puppies on Black Friday. Bu, she is an amazing and intelligent Yorkie and as always, mom knows best, along with our Vet, who said, we need to start. We followed her recommendation along with advise from experienced users here. he biggest and greaest advise came from Zoie herself. First she regurgitated in the puppies pen, several times at the same time I read - "Don't be surprised if the Dam does this," she knows the puppies are ready for real food." As we went into a routine this last week, and in feeding the pups, her regurgitation stopped (she is very healthy and we had no concerns). So, over the past several days, we have disappearing toys from the puppy digs which re-appear in our bed. But we also have Zoie and Zack food, mysteriously appearing in the puppies bed. And, where there was once no poo because Zoie took care of all their needs), we now have the most cutes little poo you would ever want o see. (my husband thinks i am nuts). What it comes down to, is understanding and listening to your Yorkies. I think mine are almost human. If I stay in bed too long, Zack pulls the covers off me and Zoie kisses my face. When I bend down into the puppy digs, it's a free for all, and I am bathed into the scent of puppy breath. Over the next few days, puppies will be fully weaned, and we will need to up the 14" wall. We are in the serious mode of potty training and will soon be ready to add a new dimension for the indoor puppy play yard (besides ordering washable potty pads). Zoie is laying on the edge of the bed, watching football while the puppies are getting ready for bed. We both say thanks for this great site. Call me crazy, but I love my Yorkies. Bev |

Start with Goat's Milk Equal Parts of Distilled water - room temperature. Add Gerber's Baby rice cereal.....make it soupy, add a bit of Karo syrup. As their baby teeth come in you can begin adding baby kibbles......The pups will get messy, and may not eat it all but, mom can clean it up.......and of course the pups too. I usually remove everything from the Puppy Pen at feeding time....Do this 3 times a day to start with. Once mom is no longer feeding I'd increase to 4 or 5 times a day.

Yorkie Yakker | Thanks - we've been through that and my husband prepares their food. He is an expert and uses fine china. The plate is clean in less then a minute and the puppies are clean. Zoie has taught them good manners. They sit and clean their paws and each other's faces, then Zoie comes in and cleans what they missed. The Vet said we will have Porkies. They love their feeding time. |

| My Yorkie had puppies on Sun the week before Super Bowl 2014. They are 4 1/2 weeks old. The mom seems to be feeding them well. At what week should I start weaning? I hear 4 to 6 weeks old. She's seems to get frustrated when I put goats milk ( puppy formula) in their cage? Is it time or am I jumping the gun? Please help! The previous post have helped me along this great experience! I also heard that it is a good idea to put a shallow dish of water in their cage? Should I or should I not? Also how can you tell when the mothers milk is starting to deplete? |

| I start introducing food at about 5 weeks if they want it but I don't formally wean them either. I let the mom's decide. My girls let their pups nurse until at least 12 weeks although by then, it's just here and there. |
