My yorkie is 7 weeks pregnant & not showing Should be week 7 or day 49 Shes 10.6lbs Shes active Eats a lot like always Around week 3 she had vomiting 2x The male is 3-4 lbs both 2 yrs old Ever since i think she acted pregnant she didnt eat her can food Not even if she doesnt eat all day. I always havr to boil chicken. So , im so anxious to see the babies To feel them But shes 7 weeks with like a WIDE rib cage NO big belly just mayer a tiny Bit. Her nipples are big but under her milk tissues are huge. Starting from the bottom ones. I kinda felt 2 hard lil balls. But they dissapear. Im concerned cuz my vet says shes fine & not to worry. I know everything is fine. But why she doesnt have a huge belly. Can i be a week off Its her 1st time too Maybe only 2. Cant wait 14 days to go! |
It is possible she is not pregnant and is having a false pregnancy or she could of been pregnant and then absorbed her pups. The only way to know for sure is to take her to the vet and get an x-ray. Since she is a big girl it would be easy for her to be hiding one or two pups. You can usually start feeling movement from the pups about 7 to 10 days before the pups are born. |
She could be having a false pregnancy, but, her not showing much doesnt mean she´s not pregnant either ;) This is Bella about 10 days before having 3 puppies and acording to my vet, the pups werent small either (I have no idea what the standard yorkie birth weight is so I´m just telling you what my vet told me): http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/s...psa7c5cc53.jpg She just looked chunky, she never had a bulging belly that hung down or anything.I have been around pregnant yorkies before, so I was waiting for that protuding belly that you could actually see, but with Bella, you had to feel her to realise that she was pregnant. I felt 2 "lumps" too (at around 6 weeks? I´d have to look back on that post to be sure), and they seemed to emerge and disapeer too.But by around 7+ weeks we could feel light movement, then rolls etc.We were told there were only 2 pups. I know now that all dogs carry differently and some don´t have huge hard bellies..Bella didnt ;) Same goes for everything really.Bella didnt have any pregnancy symptoms (exept for vaginal discharge), her appetite was pretty low the entire time (still is and she´s feeding her pups!), and even her labour threw me through a hoop, because I was expecting certain phases of labour, certain signs that obviously happened but she kept them to herself, so by the time we could actually see she was in labour, 15 minutes later the first pup was born  With all this, what I´m saying is, unless you have an x-ray done, you are basiclly just going to be guessing, and that is so nerve racking. I´d ask for an x-ray and get rid of any shadow of doubt so that you know what to expect. It will make things alot easier for you when the birth comes around ;) |

So does puppy movement feel like she has hiccups just once or twice. Cuz today i felt that twice. & now that i rememeber the past 3-4 days i have felt that but i thought she was burping or hiccups but they were really short like once or twice. |
Its normal for dams to not put on the bulk of the weight until the last two weeks. I don't know how prepared you are but here is a site that will help. Deb Jensen's site is full of information from start to finish. Canine Reproduction Video and Book on Breeding and Whelping dogs by Debbie Jensen for dog breeders and Whelping Supplies needed to deliver puppies. |

Yes, it is a very intense read and she leaves nothing to the imagination, along with photos and video. But it is a very informative site. Breeding and whelping is not for the squeamish or the faint hearted. |

I got (god knows how) a huge chunk of amniotic sac in my hair, blood all over my hands (from cutting 3 cords) and my pj t-shirt got drenched with amniotic fluid. Not only did I need a good shower afterwards, but I also did a full load of washing (towels, rags, reusable pee pads etc etc etc). It's very messy, so I'd advise that you have a small stack of old towels (warm) some old fashioned diaper rags (they work wonderfully and are super absorbent, fantastic for drying and stimulating the new born puppy) and one of those big impermeable sheets to put under everything else (or puppy pads). I was prepared, but even so, the whelping part is a huge strain for you emotionally...you worry the entire time and it doesnt go away even when the pups arrive either.Mine are 13 days old and I still havent had a full nights sleep ;) As a momma, you'll worry. |

OP FYI / the amniotic fluids and discharge does not wash out so you should be using old items. Things that you no longer have any use for that are washable can be thrown out after the puppies are placed in their new homes. Unlit than you will be changing, washing and rewashing the bedding every few days. Hope mamma and the pups are doing well ! :) |

When we realised she was actually in labour, we took her in there and sat with her for all of 10 minutes, but she totally freaked out and spent the entire time trying desperately to get out of the entire space.I think it was our fault, because she has always slept on our bed, even through her pregnancy, so I guess that she didnt understand why she had to go to this new "strange" place to have her puppies. Eventually, I helped her onto my bed, which is where she actually wanted to be, and a few minutes later the first puppy came out right into my hand (I think this is how I got that peice of amniotic sac in my hair lol). I actually got the blood and the amniotic fluid etc out of everything, I used bleach on the whites and a strong stain remover on everything else :) I guess that being as it all got washed imediately afterwards, it didnt stain ;) |

Its just amazing experience. I really want to have pups even if this happens. You can never be too much prepared. Amazing |
Sounds like she just needed to be where she felt most comfortable in order to relax and let nature take it course. |
My husband and I always whelp our litters on our bed. We have a big wicker dog bed that we place on our bed and it has lots of bedding in it so it is a nice soft place for mom to have her pups. We also put disposable bed pads on top of the bedding. You can buy those disposable bed pads at Wal-mart in the area where they sell the adult diapers. It sure makes whelping less messy. Once the mom has had all her pups then we move her and the pups to the whelping box that is setup inside a exercise pen. |
8 days left Still havent had time to feel the pups. She looks tired & tired. No major symptom. Just chunky. No huge belly tiny one only. Today i saw milk coming out her nipples. |

With just over a week left to go hopefully you have been feeding her puppy food to increase her calcium levels. Start taking her temp once a day for the first three day starting on day five and than twice a day until she goes into labor, make sure to write them down. This is also the time when you will want to get her whelping box set up and get her use to being in it. It also necessary to have a heating pad to put under the bedding on a low setting to help keep the pup/pups warm. You won't want them to get chilled. Its always best to be prepared ! |

Can false pregnancy last up to 8 weeks tho?? All she does is laydown now. But her rib cage is wide & hard . |
A false pregnancy will last as long as a pregnancy would. Also with a false pregnancy some females get lots of milk. When you stand her up on her hind legs do you see a rounded bulge in her belly or is it flat? |

She does not really look pregnant in that picture but she could be hiding one. Can you trip all that belly hair with a small pair of scissors and take another pic. I can't really tell anything because of all the hair. |

Did you see the other one the second pic? The first one was a bad pic i know sorry |

How about is this a better one? Idk why she doesnt like it standing like it hurts or something. |
I still can't tell. You need to trim all that belly hair before she has her pups if she has any. She could be carrying the pups up high. The pups usually drop several days before they are born. Are you going to take her to the vet for an x-ray? |
Are you going to have your momma xrayed? Now is the time....for safty sake, you need to know number, size of pelvic ring, and fit of puppy thru ring....position of puppy is of course subject to change, but if you go into a whelp with a puppy that is transverse, and your momma is not progressing like she should be, you have a clue that maybe that pup is still transverse and you can get help BEFORE it becomes critical.... |
