Bonney had the puppies :) I first posted on here Feb 12 that I thought our Bonney was pregnant. Yesterday with help from many we had 5 puppies. 3 girls and 2 boys. All are doing excellent we have seen in 24 hours weight gain of at least 1/4 oz in one and 1/2 oz in two, the two others are at 3/8 oz (we converted to grams on the second weighing in order to get a more accurate read). The pic is of her whelping tote (got a large tote, installed a pig rail utilizing 1 1/2 inch pvc 2 1/4 inches from bottom of the tote to the bottom of rail. You can see the puppy box to the right of the tote where I put puppies to be safe when she was having another. Big thank you to Judy (lady of rose hill) for all her suggestions, Carmen from NJ and many others. Took a concentrated effort to get up to speed for a whelp, reading books, exchanging with experienced breeders. Probably bought more than I needed to buy (as evidenced by the tower of supplies to the right), but better to have than need at 4 in the morning was my thought train. Again thanks to many for their concerned comments about Bonney and puppies.

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | Congrats on your nice litter! You've got a great set up there and I whole-heartedly agree...........better to have too many supplies, than not enough. I've got a litter of Biewer pu[s due within a week; x-ray show five for us as well.

I am lost and must confess I don't have enough imagination power to understand the "pig rail" concept. Is there an opening on the front side of the big tote? What is he rail for? Once again congrats and hope everyone is doing fine. Thanks

pig rail pig rail is to make sure her back can't get against the tote and potentially crush puppy under her.

Lucky Lady X-ray We had Bonney x-rayed at day 58. Vet said she saw 4 skulls, 4 puppies. Deanna counted 5 spines although there was no apparent 5th skull. Because of that I was prepared for her to have 5 and sort of expected it. If we would have listened to vet we might have one less puppy as her mommy skills for first litter weren't the best.

You did an excellent job preparing for the arrival of your litter....you had every supply you could have possibly needed, and with the reading, researching you had done before the babies came, you had a knowledge base that you could depend on to get you through the whelp, even in the case of an emergency! Excellent job daddy!!!! (Tell your vet Deanna would be happy to come read his xrays for him, for a small fee!) Last edited by Yorkiemom1; 03-20-2013 at 05:42 PM.
