Unless she's carrying a single pup; mine had me guessing/doubting even when I knew she was when she was pregnant with just one. At 6 weeks it's too late for your vet to palpitate; I don't normally have the xray done until they are about 8 weeks along. You will definitely want to do that. For now, I'd treat her as if she IS pregnant, giving her at least an extra meal a day to sustain both her and her growing pups needs.Keep us posted & good luck! | Ideally, an ultrasound at 4 weeks along, will verify if the breeding "took". I usually have an US done at 4 weeks, so I dont waste time fooling around with "false pregnancies", etc....US are more expensive than an xray, and you have to have a vet that can do them, and then "read" what they are seeing, so I did not recommend that to you....since you are already possibly at 6 weeks without prenatal care/diet, I would verify with xray, then try to have a positive effect on the babies with the little time you have left, by giving her a diet designed to promote healthy development in those growing babies, start making plans about whelping a litter, getting all your supplies together, alerting your vet for the need for possible help whelping, then repeat the xray on day 56-58, in order to get measurements on the head/pelvic ring ratio, and then go from there. |
