Help needed, is this labor??? Hi everyone, I am hoping for some advice. My Tinkerbell is pregnant with 2 pups and yesterday she was a bit mopey and very clingy, I couldn't leave the room without her following! Then I took her temperature at it was 98.20. A short while after that she was sick! I stayed up with her all night and feel so sleep deprived right now!! Lol :confuse2: her rear started to swell which makes her walk a bit funny bless her and one of the things I noticed in the early hours this morning was how active the pups were, it's like they were playing tag obviously with not much space to run so it was a bit mad! Is all of this normal.??? Is she in labor? No waters have broken but it's just the swelling on her rear that made me think 'This is it'!!! Please help and let me know what you think cos :idontknow So tired right now but she's sleeping .... X |
Sorry, I don't know.....I've only ever given birth to 'skin kids' :D Is your vet on stand-by just in case? It might be worth giving him/her a call? Sally + Harry :aimeeyork x |
Our vets number is next to the phone :) This is her first litter and she's still sleeping (lucky her) lol plus I haven't seen any milk yet, but I have read that could be normal as its her first litter and some dogs don't show any milk until they have whelped. |
Yes, those are all signs of impending labor. I assume she's due? Has she eaten anything? Loss of appetite can also mean puppies will come soon. From the sounds of things I'd bet you will be having puppies within the day or tomorrow. Stay home with her, give her a quiet/calm place to be and watch her closely for more signs. Good luck to you and Tinkerbell. Keep us posted! |
No, she has not eaten much, if anything today she just keeps sleeping. There's been a tiny bit of milk I have noticed now so I'm guessing maybe tonight?? I will keep you updated :) |
Hi, Just taken Tinkerbells temperature and it is 98.00!!! That's the lowest I've recorded so what do we think??? |
This is Tinkerbells first litter....is this YOUR first litter???!!! |
I would say she is very close. The lack of appetite is always a sure sign with my girls with whelps happening within about 12 hours. But all dogs are unique beings and not all will have the exact same signs. I've read of some that keep fooling their owners for days & days. Hopefully that's not the case for you; better make sure you have a fresh pot of coffee to keep yourself awake for as long as she needs you. |
Just checking in to see if you have babies yet..... |
Please update on your yorkie's condition/progress/status. |
Hi, Stayed up with her all night and absolutely nothing happened!! Calling the vets for advice when they open, will take her temperature again at about 8.00am see what that's like. About 4.00 this morning she was her usual self, she was eating, having some water, barking or growling at random noises outside lol so I have no idea what to think. |
Hi, do you know how many days she is? |
Hi, She is 64 days today :) |
This is her first litter....she could go another 4-5 days! Put on the coffee!!! |
Took her temp again and its 97.35 f!!!! She's still very sleepy. Mind you, so am I!!! Lol seems bright enough in herself just sleepy. She still barked at the postman :D Now her temp has reached 97.35, how often do you all think I should take it now?? Thanks for all the advice, makes me feel better. And yes, this is both mine and Tinkerbells first litter. This is the only litter she will have. And I'm not selling the pups!! If she was having 6 there might be a problem but she is having 2 so they will both be mine too :) X |
Hi, sounds like it could be anytime now... don't think much to keep our little ones from taking notice of the postman :D Did you get the pm I sent? it has all the details on that web link about temperature taking and other advice. Oh another jump to 4 x the fun, love and licks :D Best wishes |
Aww thank you :) I will go and check my messages, still getting used to this website. I am taking Tinkerbell to the vets at 5pm just to get her checked over and make sure everything is ok. She seems really down today and just for a peace of mind I want to take her to the vets. Let you know how she gets on :) |
Hi, it takes a while to get the hang of this place, it has so many headings :) Im pleased you going to the vets, hopefully it will put your mind at rest. Bless her, she will be out of sorts, her little hormones will be all over the place good luck at the vets :) |

Today she has been nesting more in her whelping box and spending a lot of time in there. There is definitely milk there too, going for pees more frequently etc. I've spoken to my vet tonight and she thinks 'we should see action tonight'!! If nothing then we have to take Tinkerbell to see her tomorrow (again) So all fingers and toes crossed tonight please!!!! :) |
Hi, Fingers and toes well and truly crossed :) |
Fingers crossed she has those babies tonight |

Whelping Yorkie puppies is scary. I hope you have someone that has done it before to help you. Don't hesitate to take your girl to the vet. Please keep everyone posted. Praying for an easy whelp and healthy puppies. |
Awesome! Good luck (to you both!!!) and congratulations in advance!!!! |
Nothing yet? I will be checking in the morning. |
Hi, how are you and Tinkerbell this morning? |
Looking for an update....like I said 3 days ago, this being her first litter, she could drag on for 4-5 days....maybe even longer! You are in close communication with your vet, so that is good! |
Checking in for update.....have babies????!!! |
