YTCA breeder referral section This might be the silliest question on the forum :p but are the breeders on the YTCA "guaranteed" to be reputable? |
YTCA is a starting point to find a reputable breeder. We always tell everyone to talk to the breeder before purchasing. Ask lots of questions. |
No........not a silly question at all. |
haha okay because I found my breeder on YTCA (and I love her to pieces!) and idk if its because i'm just getting really anxious that Miley will be home in a week or what but I keep thinking the most horrible "what if's" possible! Like what if I drive 9 hours there and there is no Miley or what if the breeder gave Miley to another family or what if Miley is really a puppy mill pup, etc. my brain is going crazy!! :(:(:( |

If you like a breeder who isn't a member, ask him/her why and go from there.:) |

I agree with others, it could be a good starting point. It certainly worked for me when I was searching for Piccolo. I used to think all YTCA breeders would be great, until I talked to someone on YT that said the YTCA person she was lead to believe was the breeder of her puppy for over a year, was really only the broker and she didn't find out until she went to have her pet registered with the AKC. Horrible story. We did recommend that the owner needed to report this breeder to the AKC and the YTCA, but the owner of the pup chose not to do this. Anyway, I hope/believe this is a very rare thing and that almost all YTCA breeders are legitimate. |

To me a broker is just someone that buys puppies cheap just to resale them or someone that helps sell puppies for a puppy mill. If your friend was truly deceived then the person should have been reported. |
You have been given a lot of good advice and just like any club there are members who might choose to join for the wrong reasons. While not all members of the YTCA are actually breeders, the people listed on the referral page are usually active breeders. I always advise pet owners to read the differences between good breeders and backyard breeders and when interviewing breeders don’t be afraid to ask questions, and try to find someone you can connect with, this person will be in your life for a long time! Here’s a good link that tells you what to look for in a responsible breeder. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...e-breeder.html |
My breeder was on the YTCA referral page and she has been nothing but great. I did locate closer breeders but the connection I felt with my breeder was much better than the closer breeders. That's why I chose to drive the 9 hours to pick up my puppy from her! I could've flown but I didn't want to take Miley on a plane just yet. She's going to be nerve wrecked enough just being away from what she knew. |
Nothings "guaranteed" And looks like you went with you instincts. Hope it works out great. I've had a good experience with the referral page. And I come from trust nobody you know and really don't trust them if you don't know them |
