Reputable Breeder?
 

I have a friend who is looking to find a nice yorkie and she came across this breeder "STARDUST YORKIES" run by a lady named Sue Harasim. Does anyone know of this kennel, or it's reputation? The reason I'm asking is that my friend asked for pictures of puppies and they replies that they don't send out pictures that their reputation should speak for itself. Wow, I've never heard of a breeder responding like that. They do have some champions, but still, to be like that? If anyone has any kind of info, I know that my friend would love the input...

I have never heard of that breeding facility. Is it possible for your friend to go on site and check it out? I always recommend looking at the puppy first before buying it, even if they have pics. Every dog looks different and even "pet quality" pets come from Champion bloodlines. Maybe it's because she dosen't have any puppies available right now? I believe in going with your gut feeling. If something doesn't feel right, then don't go for it or ask alot of questions.

Yes she does have a website http://www.stardustyorkies.com/Puppies.html but it's still not good business about not sending pictures. Yes, I think she does have puppies available, that's why we were wondering if anyone has delt with her personally... :confused:

I have heard great things about this breeder. Bella0722 has one of their babies. Maybe you could pm her about her experience.

I agree with you on not wanting to send the pics I was just going to see if I have talked to her or not by checking out her website I like to talk to the breeders about what is in Lillis Ped so I was just going to see if I reconize it.

OHHH, I didnt read all of your post. I don't know what to say about that. Anyone can have a good rep, but if you are looking for a baby, OF COURSE you should get pics! I have only heard good things about stardust, but the picture/rep thing kinda startled me :confused:

I have also heard of good things about the Star Dust Line, And I would call her back and ask her why she wont send you pics,Did she give you any References to call?

She is very well know and probably gets a ton of calls every week. If she responded all the time to the lookers - she might not get anything done at home. She is using her web site to display her photos. If you are interested - I think she would rather you go to her home and look with your eyes and feel with you hands what kind of pups she has. I don't think she meant to be mean. She has many champions and I guess after you have become popular - your name speaks for itself. Again, I really don't think she meant to seem rude. ;)

If you want to see champion bred Stardust dogs, you can go here and click on Pedigree. They are Ransom and Summer. Also, check with the site owner and see if they've had dealings with the breeder. Yorkie link

Thanks everyone, it sounds like Stardust is a good kennel. It's true that maybe they get so many calls for pictures it's just a waste of time that they could be spending on they're dogs. I will pass along this info so she can decide to pursue it further or not. Maybe if she talks to the lady more she will come around to showing her what she has...

A few years back..about 7..I had two friends who bought from StarDust..
Whipsersmom saw one of the females, so she can add a comment if she wants..
Both girls were bought for breeding..they both exceeded 10 pounds. One was flopped eared, thin coat., one was almost totally white..BUT they were sweet girls...and would have made great pets.

Even though I was not a buyer, I did call Sue and ask her why these girls were sold by her, but she was not the breeder? She said she was selling for her friends.
Perhaps, if you get a pup from her breeding, it will be much better quality. My friends thought they were..and novices do not always know how to read a pedigree. Sue said my friends misunderstood her..reasonable answer.

Well, that wasn't very nice. Did she have a contract between them and her? At least with a contract you have everything in writing and once the honeymoon glow wears off - you know what was said and done. I always have a contract - it protects everyone involved. :)

The term breed quality is in the eye of the beholder...I never thought a underbite, oversized, flopped earred bitch was breed quality..but I was informed, it was fine for a novice.
But..I do not think this person was asking about anything except a pet..right???
I do know one thing, unless I see it in person, I would never buy it...from anyone, except 3 people.

I live in Illinois and I have approached Sue at local dog shows and she is very into her showing. Her show dogs are gorgeous. When I was looking for a puppy I emailed her twice and did not get a response.

Well I think that my friend is going to pass on "Stardust" kennels. She talked with Sue and she didn't get a lot of answers that she wanted and there was a lot of breeding practices that she didn't agree with Sue on. So thanks everyone for the input, it really helps a lot when there are a lot of different opinions...

Susan has people that whelp her puppies and take care of the puppies.. They then take them to Susan for her to sell.. I believe that one older couple that does this for her lives in Iowa.. I do know this for a fact.. She also has more than one person that does this for her..

I had a friend purchase a male from her for breeding.. She wanted a babydoll face, no larger than 3-4 lbs and a nice coat.. She ended up with a male that is a terrier, will mature out to be 6-7 lbs, but he will have a nice coat, lol!

Make sure you tell Susan exactly what you are wanting your puppy to mature out to be as far as quality and size! Make sure that Susan knows exactly what you are wanting!!!

Susan does have some gorgeous yorkies! But if I am paying over $2,000.00 for a yorkie I had better receive what I paid for!

I have attached pictures of the male.. He was in my home for awhile, but I decided that he was not what I wanted to show and was to large for me.. He is out of Susan's Jake..

I also forgot to mention that there was NO contract just a verbal guarnatee..

It is amazing how many well know show/breeder people that do not use contracts. I wonder why? Is it because they are soooo busy or they just don't have to? I will aways use contracts.
I use to have a shop in Dahlonega GA and had local crafts people have some of their things in my shop for consignment and realized later on it was best to use contracts. Why, because one person expected me to sell her things within a month and if no one bought I was suppose to buy all of her things. She got mad at me when I told her no - that is not how it works. If I had a contract - she would have remembered what I had said because it would have been in writing.
Just like selling or buying a pup - what are you wanting and what are you getting? If buying a pup under 6 months of age - there really can't be any guarantees as to what you are getting, because so much can change in those 3 months. I always sell under 6 months as companion pets, but do cover health guarantees. If you purchase 6 months or older - you have a better idea of what you are getting and the breeder can somewhat guarantee a bit better.
I bought a show prospect at 4 months years ago and she only grew to a small frame 4 pounds. Surprising to us, since she was the largest in the litter. Did I go back to the breeder and complain? No. I did go back to her and ask her if I could sell my pup from her, since I could not show or breed her and offered her back to her too. We both agreed I could sell her. :)

I probably make no sense to many, but I have a contract for PETS only. If I place something as breed/show prospect I do not have a contract..
My reason is..if the person feels it does not turn out to be what they wanted, I perfer to take the pup back, return monies, etc.
But I place perhaps one pup every two or three years for breeding..and if the pup is not suitable..then it is easy to make restitution.
MY reasoning is simple..if you aren't happy with the quality, why force the person to keep it?
A health problem is vital to a breedable dog, any problem that effects breeding is my problem, not the owners..so that money is refunded, pup taken back if the owner wants..their call.

I have dealt with many well known show breeders and you are right..I have rarely gotten a contract..and when I did, it was a sales contract...stating price, parents..not much else.
Maybe things have changed in the last few years..haven't bought anything lately.

I spoke with Yorkieville200 here on YT, who has a pup from Susan at Stardust. She spoke very highly of Susan and Yorkieville200 sent me pictures of her two yorkies from that breeder...they are Very Cute...and very close to the standard...they have Silky coats and are compact looking. You might want to PM her....

There is NOTHING wrong with the quality of Stardust..many lovely champions. Like anything else a person needs to trust the breeder will actually sell them what they ask for..my friends did not get what they paid for..but that is also up for debate. What one person may feel is breed quality another may not..

There is a breeder in PA who has several dogs that she uses for breeding and I THINK she sells her pups as pet quality. A friend went to PA last year to pick up a male that she THOUGHT she had an agreement on and felt she ended up in a bidding war. BUT, that was not StarDust herself..
Maybe if you cannot deal with the kennel but can find a puppy that is bred with Stardust lines. Just a thought especially if all your friend wants is a pet..
