Even at 5 lbs she is still small you need to be prepared that she may still need a c section maybe not but best be prepared

yoko sorry to hear about your baby i hope all goes well for the puppies and the mummy, i have bred my baby for the same reason i want to keep a daughter, keep me posted :animal36:aimeeyork:aimeeyork

OK so what happens if your Yorkie only has male's?? do you breed again and again until you get a female??

I would suggest that if you don't already have a mentor that can come and assist you during the whelp, that you find one quickly. Reading books and videos alone is not enough to prepare you. (Think about it, would you let a doctor who'd ONLY read books and videos perform surgery on you?)
That really is the best advice I can give you--make sure you have someone on call who can be there with your when your girl delivers. Odds are that everything will go smoothly, but it's best to be prepared in case it doesn't.

No ! I am only breeding her once if she only has males thats to bad could still keep a male and get my female neutered but no i wont keep breeding her thats just cruel :)

Im not sure what u mean by a mentor ? But i have a vet on call 24/7 should we need any assistance or advice when the time comes :aimeeyork

Mentor = seasoned, experienced breeder, someone who has actually whelped litters before Someone who can be there WITH you to help guide you while your girl whelps litter, not just a vet you can call if something goes wrong. Someone who can spot complications during the whelping process quickly.

Amoxicillin is one of a few antibiotics that can be safely taken by the mother when she is pregnant. THAT is the least of your worries at this point.....Just take care of your momma, this may very well be an expensive venture....but you owe it to HER to do whatever is necessary to keep her alive and healthy. This breeding thing is NOT for novices....you can easily end up loosing your momma as well as all the babies, and have NOTHING to show for it but a huge vet bill. As you see, you are in trouble with momma, and she hasnt even whelped yet....you need to watch her very closely during the whelp....I dont know what kind of infection she has, but if the pups are born alive, and they do survive, you may be hand rearing them (bottle or tube feeding) if her milk is "tainted" from the infection......you REALLY need a mentor to be there with you as you may have your hand very full.....I will be praying for you and your momma dog and the puppies as well, coping with this unfortunate circumstance.

Yoko prayers for you and the Momma. I hope you have someone that can be with you that is at least somewhat experienced. Two hands are very helpful, and rushing a dog to the vet for an emergency during the whelp is very very stressful.

the very best of luck for the whelp and for the health of the future puppies.
