I would think it would depend on the champion lines what they can and do charge for a puppy. I don't think we should question if they are reputable just because they at one time may of gotten that price. |
If I'm buying a "pet quality" pup....I DO question it. Im not buying a pup to show.....and I wouldn't "qualify" to even be sold one. Its ridiculous to me (the outlandish prices bad breeders are asking, and the buyers are getting rooked into paying)....but hey....to each their own. If someone were to come up and ask me about what they should expect to pay for a healthy, well bred yorkie.....I'd advise them to look at who's a member of the YTCA, member of a yorkie club in their area, and to BEWARE of anyone asking over 1,800 dollars tops for one of their PET QUALITY BABIES. If someone wants to pay 5,000-6,0000+......go for it!!!!! I'm SURE that breeder is gonna be laughing all the way to the bank. |
I may be mistaken but I think Yorkiemom1 does have show dogs not just pet quality. I seem to remember a recent thread of hers where she mentioned she had 2 to show that day. |

Is it just me or do these puppies all look a bit 'off'...?? With those asking prices I think the breeder is a bit off.. |
And all we were saying was how yorkiemom's post came off as how we read into it. She has not yet been back on to elaborate. I would like to know how she got $5-6k for a pet quality yorkie.
I dont believe I said I got that much for "pet quality" yorkies.....I will have to go back and re-read my post.....it was NOT pet quality yorkies that I got that for....I am glad all this rumble about what I used to charge for an occasional pup, was brought to my attention! BYT, when you have that much invested in your "breeding stock",and they are all retired show dogs or have extensive champions, Grand Champions, and International Grand Champions, on both side of the pedigree, it is NOT unusual to get a show dog occasionally....I do not show personally, but I do sell to people that show. Hopefully, that explanation will appease anyone that thinks I charged too much for my show quality babies, that either went to show homes, or were used as an exemplary addition to another breeder's program! If I had been aware that so much concern was being focused on what I got for an occasional puppy, I certainly would have responded sooner...I am not used to defending what I do...hope I managed to put "inquiring minds" to rest! |
Your not even ALLOWED to breed it. I don't need to pay 6,000+ to love and pet. I wouldn't even want to pay anywhere NEAR that much. My dog would automatically become this REALLY EXPENSIVE investment. I don't want all that in a pet. |

Yorkiemom...you didn't specify...you just said "for my pups". Also, from what I know and have learned on YT...you'd be the first that sold your "show pups" off to people. Glad you decided to finally try and clarify. Maybe your reputable afterall. |

I'm curious now though. You were breeding someone elses retired shiw dogs, not showing yourself, did that mean you had a handler or you are just uninvolved in show period? Did all your dogs go to show I dont understand I didbt realize there were nonshow show breeders. But you had to have had some just pet quality pups too right?
Quote:
