Need Advice on possibly pregnant Yorkie!!! Last week I decided to get a pregnant Yorkie, I been looking for a Yorkie, and my father was breeder of show dogs, but anyways I have helped him before so when I saw this ad I decided to contact this lady Errica Allen from Livingston, TN. Well I drove 5 hours to get her this past Thursday well with me knowing I was going to get her I called my vet and he agreed to see her friday morning and going by what Ms. Errica said he went ahead and schedule a csection also just to be on the safe side. Well I went to go get this little girll and when I walked in I was no way this dog is pregnant she was so underweight so of coarse Im like no I do not want her, but then Ms. Errica Bulldog comes in the room and the bulldog and Yorkie went at it, it scared me so bad I wanted to run, but I could not see myself leaving this little girl behind, Well I ended up getting her taking her home tookk her a nice bath and picked every flea I could find on her off and also vaccuum my whole house with flea/tick killer carpet freshner, and tried to feed her, but she wouldn't eat. We got up friday I took her to the vet and of coarse she had tape worms, and was 3lbs underweight which was alot for a little yorkie and he said she did not seem to be pregnant unless she to early to tell but her uterus was not swollen so we gets the things he suggested to get her weight up well I have had her since thursday and she has really put on a little weight quicker than normal if you ask me her stomach no longer sinks in and she sleeps alot the lady said she tied with the male April 1 everyday for a week. Me personally I don't think she is pregnant because this would put her at 6-7 weeks and she looks nothing like a 6-7 week pregnant dog. Her nipples pokes out a little more since she been eating but not full, and don't look like she has milk. Would someone be up willing to recieve a few picture to see what they think or any advice you have to give. And I also called Cookeville Humane Society on Ms Errica Allen I did not like to hear the my baby is underweight because of lack of care I have had her less than a week and she looks like a totally different dog, and we can tell she loves it with her I just don't want to come home to puppies on the couch or somewhere. Cant post pic but will continue to try. Any advice will be appreciated!!! |
Gosh.......first order of business is to find out if she is indeed pregnant...not guessing or supposing, but something definitive....either ultra sound or xray....of course, these measures are only as good as the person reading the images! After you determine if she is pregnant, then what you do next will be clear. I hope she is NOT pregnant...carrying babies during that developmental stage of the pregnancy, while in a starvation condition, and 3# underweight on a Yorkie IS starvation!, has not been good for the babies, struggling to develop. Prenatal care is important!! |
First of all, Welcome to YorkieTalk. Can you share how old this yorkie is and how much does she weigh? If she is a larger yorkie it is possible she could be carrying one or two pups but from what you describe it sounds like she is not pregnant. I recommend you keep feeding her a healthy diet and watch her closely. Just treat her like she is pregnant. Please don't expose her to any flea treatments or chemicals. |
Never Mind, I thought twice, for once.... |
hi, Welcome to yt. I am so glad you saved this little girl. My thoughts on this is: you were saying you had a csection scheduled? The little girl has not been spay? So why not have the vet check her, if she is healthy enough just have her spay/csection? I agree that if she is pregnant it would not be a good thing and the chances of the puppies being healthy at this point would not be likely. good luck |
Thanks everyone for your advice here is more info. and an update... She is 2 years old, my vet said she has about an 7lb frame but she weigh in at 4.6lbs so he round it off to about 3lbs underweight. I have decided to cook her chicken and rice and I mix her kibble in with it and she is looking like a new dog. She is picking up weight fast but I see her nipple are not full at all they do look dark with black tips, but she has started licking herself alot I recognized it yesterday. She is a doll I dont think people really get to know there own dogs, because this female is so sweet she stands for grooming, she stands for me to check her she comes to you give u a kiss and go curl up on the couch and sleep I have already fell in love with her I dont regret getting her. Just from here on out I want it to be worthwhile for her. She deserves it. |

I am hoping that you have fallen in love enough with her to have her fixed. This poor thing seems like she has been through so much, let her just be a spoiled lap dog and continue to love her and care for her. |

We go back to the vet next week for an xray to make sure she isn't pregnant and I schedule her an csection, but my vet said if she is not pregnant then he will spay her on that date. Yeah she is pet only for now on. But if anyone ever cross a BYBreeder by the name of Errica Allen just run please... |
