| local newspaper ads I have noticed while looking in the local papers that 90% of the ads that are running have been running continuosly throughout. Some of these breeders have website while some don't. I've never checked any of these places out being leary for I have seen 2 puppy mills in this area that really emotionally did me in! How could one tell without going to the place if they are a mill or what. Both mills I've been to were real impressive by phone so I was devistated both times and surprised! In '99 I went to a ladies house and the pure breed yorkies w/ papers were mixed with something, that same week I visited a breeder who lied and said she had yorkies and poodles and when we got there she had a poodle Mill with dead poodles, very sick, some eyes were missing while others had different color eyes, the smell would take your breath away!!! My husband had to drag me away!! I reported!!But as you see I am really leary... |

| You can find good breeders in our newspaper. I found mine in our Trader paper. It is a newspaper where people sell all kinds of things including pets.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I found mine in the newspaper after no success with a couple of known show breeders in my area. They never responded. I called several ads and talked to two at length. One that i had a short call with said she had never heard of collapsed trachea so I cut thatcall short! The one I chose spent 45 minutes on the phone with me and told me all about her experience and sounded good. When we went to see the puppy the hiuse was nice and clean and she had some puppies that were sold but going home soon so they were in a play pen. She would not let me put the puppy on the floor since she was so tiny and only 6 weeks old. I fell in love the minute I saw Cali and put a deposit on her. We went back 3 weks later and took her home. AFter a few little health issues Cali was fine. I have now see her advertise a lot and saying she has teacups?!!! I have been lucky so far and would probably buy from her again.

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Unless you know a breeder very well and trust a breeder, you cannot go by anything you read in the paper. You need to go an inspect and see for yourself. I do not understand people that will buy without checking out the place...especialy if they live within a couple of hours from the breeder. Wouldn't you want to go and pick out the puppy yourself??? I'm glad that you reported the poodle breeder. That is sad and disgusting!

| I always thought it would be an easy way to find puppymills, just call breeders in the paper or ads and wish to look at their puppies and facilities.. in some degree it is quite nosy, but if it catches a puppymill, i thought it was a good idea.

The puppymills I have found have the dogs seperate from they're house. Like in kennels somewhere on they're property. Dirty with poo all over and all open to the weather. The most inhumain thing you can imagine!!The other one was a barn with no heat and over crowded and a shed. When I had talked to them on the phone they acted as if they loved they're dogs..How could you treat any animal like that and say you respect them....This has made me so hesitant | |
