Baby Doll Face vs. Terrier Face I have been a yorkie owner for close to two years now.I currently have two. My first, T.J., has what I think people consider the baby doll face. My second has what I think people call the terrier face. Even though each is 100% yorkie, how has so much variance occured in facial features? I'm assuming the terrier face came first and this baby doll face has been bred into the yorkie? Just curious. |
Standard doesn't address facial features too much and the breeder is left to decide many things. Not too long ago it said the muzzle should be neither too long or too short, now it just says not too long, but what does that mean? Here's the official standard as written by YTCA. Quote:

I like both faces. I think all 3 of my Yorkies had the baby doll face - the shorter muzzle. To be that face is cutest. But I love the regular muzzle Yorkies too. They are the real beauties. |
I love love love the terrier face! They remind me of the yorkies my Nan raised in England. |
I'm not big on the baby doll faces as much. I prefer a Yorkie to look more like a terrier and not a ShihTzu or something. Sometimes the "baby doll" faces have more popped out eyes and it's just not my preference. |
Can some one show pic's of this faces plz |

Thank you for posting the pictures I see ..they are adorable..I just got my yorkie so I'm a new mommy this is my 1st yorkie..tanks for the info |
My tj is not really toyish looking like what I've seen. He is small and extremely cute, but my girl, which I got from a breeder...."farm".....has a much different face....much more terrier face....almost a silky face, from the little that ive gleaned. She also has two white toenails....? |
I find it all interesting. I know horses, and one can tell what linage they come from if they are true to the breed. Line breeding is not good, but is that what goes on with yorkies to get a desired look? |
2 Attachment(s) Tibbe has a fairly short muzzle and some say he has a baby doll face. Here are pictures of him. I don't think he looks too pop-eyed or anything but that is just me. |

2 Attachment(s) I am currently looking for another puppy and so have been looking at alot of puppy faces lately. The first pic is mine as a pup, with a distinct terrier face, the second pic is a pup of the same age with a "babydoll" face. Looking at the two is hard to believe they are the same breed. The baby doll face, to me, as a chihuahua-type head...rounder with eyes further apart and a very short nose. |
