Pedigree Research I was wondering how to go about doing pedigree research on my dogs are there any books that i can purchase or websites to acquire this information. I have 4 yorkies at the moment and im not into showing (please dont kill me) i just love the breed and would like to know more about the ancestry of my dogs and i did find the breeder of one of my females on here that has Clarkwyn lines on the topside but i dont think the breeder is no longer active here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thx!!!!! Last edited by que; 10-14-2011 at 04:14 PM.

If they do not have champions in there pedigree it is very difficult to find out on your own to research, unless they come from top lines. You can go to AKC if your dogs are AKC registered and pay for their pedigree and learn their ancestry. That is the easiest way. Last edited by topknot; 10-15-2011 at 05:00 AM.

oops.. meant to write: their pedigree. Anytime one is breeding it is so important to know the dogs's pedigree. You have to know what is coming down the pipeline, so to speak. You have to know if it would be a good match and if there are any genetic problems. Also be sure to do health testings on any prospected parents.

YT 1000 Club Member | Like Topknot posted, it is really hard to find dogs in the pedigree unless they are Champions. It has taken me almost 4 years to do a complete 10 generation on my dogs. After the 5th generation I decided I wanted to find more so I did. I had the help of some very good friends and mentors to help me find dogs that were missing. You could start by googling the names of the dogs. That is how I originally started.

Oops ... Meant to type dogs' not dogs's. Hard on an I phone. It is fun to Google and see what you find, but unless they are champions you are looking for or from champion lines you most likely will not find much of anything. And remember anything past the 3rd generation is not going to contribute much to generation. So if you are looking for champions, but can't find any within the first three generations you don't have much to speak about. Reason why I state this is I see sometimes where breeders will brag about their champion lined pups and there are no champions up close. That is so wrong.
