| Ups and Downs Since breeding my girl I have had many ups and downs of "is she or isn't she?". She showed all the symptoms early on.. She was Tired, she threw up (only one morning).. and remained sleepy, clingy and more protective of the house ( barking when people come over ect. ) My father is an experienced breeder..(but not yorkies) He checked her around 38 days.. and said by her teats and belly she was pregnant. About that same time I watched her girth from rib to hip seem to "thicken". She started a little "pooch" and her teats continued to swell. At the time there was no doubt in my mind that she had concieved. ( started inventory on my whelping supplies..ect. Called vet to see when he would want to do exam/xray. Vet said to call as we got closer.) Now over the last week ( day 48- to today day 56 from first tie) her belly seems that of a normal dog. She has not put on anymore belly.. she leveled out from that of the 38 day mark and hasn't lost or gained any weight. She has no discharge, and I became convinced that she had reabsorbed any pup she might have had and didn't bother scheduling her xray as she had her energy back, no milk..and hadn't lost any hair around the nipples. I couldnt' fathom where any puppy could be hiding that would be due in the next week. (no belly ) So, yesterday I was talking with my dad who is still insisting she will have one.. (he is old school and as experienced as he was.. he bred beagles..and its been 20 years since he retired.) I told him "no way.. she is acting normal..and her body seems back to normal.. no increase in appetite anymore.. and no growth of belly.. her energy is back. and I should see movement by now..even with a singleton.) Last night when we went to bed ( she sleeps with me ) we went to lay down, and she was very restless... she started chewing on my comforter.. she was digging over the blankets for a good 20 minutes and finally settled down. She woke me at 2 am very restless, I got up put her outside, she came in and drank a ton of water..then back to bed..still seeming restless... Now, ( sorry so long winded ) she has no milk, no swelling in her vulva, no discharge, no movement in her belly- last nights behavior was the first time I doubted my thought that "there is no way she is pregnant" . I am currently waiting for a call back from my vet... because I am second guessing my thoughts.... but I guess the long and short of my question is.. has anyone had a bitch that you were positive didn't take when breeding.. and then proved you wrong last minute with a singleton surprise? My girl is 5.6 lbs... the stud is only 2.5.... but I know that the dam decides size... right? So I would think at this point even one pup ( 3 oz or so ) would show in her belly? She would have milk? Hair would be thinning around her nipples? ( her nipples are not darkening pink either they are the same skin color as the rest of her belly) Sorry to go on and on.. just looking for others experiences anything similiar? |

I think a trip to the vet is in order......And yes, they can absorb later in the pregnancy. Either way a trip to the vet is in order.

| I'll try for a picture Like I said she doesn't look pregnant.. she has just started to act different. She goes to the Vet in the morning. that is the soonest he could get her in.. he didn't seem to worried. Her temp is normal.. she is acting healthy.. I don't want a pup ill prepared.. or worse. Just wondering if any others had a similar situation. My dogs in the past have always been very obviously pregnant by the 8th week. photo(2).JPG photo.JPG |

| I think an x-ray is in order. Mine on her first litter didn't get 'huge' and we never saw movement (& we checked several times a day!!), no temperature change, no classic signs that delivery was imminent and she had three good sized pups (three days early with a 10 minute warning). We had her x-rayed as we will with this litter also. I think dogs are like people insomuch as every pg is different, doesn't necessarily follow the expected. What's normal for one isn't for another, etc.

| The pee stick would be great. Kalina gained very little with her first litter and didn't look or act pg. She had three puppies. They were very small. If she had taken after her owner she would have whelped a Yorkie puppy equivalent to a ten pounder.

| Waiting.. Waiting for phone call at work from b/f. He took our little girl into the vets at 1030 am. ( I got called into work ) Last night while she was laying on her back in my lap... I could have sworn I felt a pup up high between hip and ribs on her right side. ( it seemed to roll ) then while watching her belly it again seemed to move a couple times... but I might just be looking to hard.. because as you can see from the pictures.. her belly doesn't look pregnant. I guess the xrays will tell all. Today is 57 days from first tie. ( I let them tie once on 3/11 and again on 3/13.) When we went to bed last night she again dug up the bed like she was trying to reach China.. and then started pulling the heavy comforter down off of me and then laying on top of it and chewing on it... But she seems to be doing this all playfully too. ( which she used to do as a pup..but hasn't done in quite sometime ) Enough blabbering from me.. I will let you know what the vet says shortly. |

| I am very curious, has there been any news - I've never had a pregnant pet so I wouldn't even know what to look for... Last edited by Alvindy; 05-06-2011 at 09:34 AM. |
