is he worth breeding this is sampson these are some pics of him as soon as my batteries charge i will get some better ones up. my question is is sampson a good candidate for breeding? please all comments welcome even if there not good comments. i want honest answers please!! the only thing to add to sampsons backround is that he is perfectly healthy, his ears arent up because of me, and there was some father daughter inbreeding done in his pedigree? breeders info would be great but i will take anyones opinion. :) |

Sampson is a very beautiful boy. I can definitely see where the name Sampson came from :) . Some problems you may experience in breeding Sampson are, due to his size you would need to find a female at least a couple of pounds or basically bigger than him to avoid ANY delivery complications that could arise for the mother due to the fact that he will most probably throw big pups. Another problem would be the history of inbreeding in his background may produce genetic defects (liver shunts, knee problems, etc) with the pups. Lastly, in my experience, many people looking for puppies are more interested in the ones that will be in the size of at least 4 - 6 lbs full grown, so you might have a problem locating good homes for the pups or ending up with a house full - which could become costly to you. Anyway, good luck with your decision. Tracy |
I'm just curious -- why do you want to breed him? |

I'm sure that Sampson is everything you've ever dreamed of. He looks like a total sweetheart. I just like certain looks and I'm not finding those in Sampson. I know that all of that sounds bad and I'm sorry if your feelings were hurt. You asked for an honest opinion and I gave you one. But all of this is JUST MY OPINION. The next breeder may love his look and everything about him. |
And also, someone may not like how my yorkies look...and that's okay. Everyone has a preference and is entitled to their opinion. |
aww I love that 4th pic of him, sorry this is off subject! |
I believe she posted before that he weighs 4.5 lbs @ 11 months...though he does look bigger in the pics. If you can get him stacked in a photo it would be easier to see his conformation. From these he looks to be a very sweet, pet quality boy. His gold isn't clear on his head, but that could be age... Coat, modified? Ears large and down, taping wouldn't have made them smaller... Check some on the show pics thread, especially feminvstr, wnalegrias and check some show breeder's websites (Pat's is Primrose Yorkies) for comparisons. I'm not an expert, this is jmo. |
You want frank opinions, please take it for evaluation not a slam against your little man. First its so difficult to tell so much in pictures if you read the AKC breed standard there are many things that do not match up. Mind you these opinions are from pictures. it appears he's over the 7lbs weight standard (if not sorry its the pics then) his outward body assembly doesnt represent the standard legs look very long - standard is 9 " body looks long - standard is 9" neck looks long - muzzle looks long, wide and down ears down and oversized he has no tail set his top line is sloped sorry for the honesty but he is pure loveable hugable pet quality! Not a good prospect for breeding at all. |
dog He is very cute. But I really think you should get him fixed. It is VERY hard to have a pet AND a stud. You have to really pick one or the other. Having a stud is very difficult on you and the carpet. After he has mated he will change. He is more likely to mark and uhm... mate with your leg or various objects (trying to put this nicely.) When my pug was only 5 months old and only a week before he was to be fixed he started to TRY to do the deed with my neighbor's spaded lab/pointer mix. It was SOOOO embarrassing because the kids were outside playing and I thought Bailey was too young to do that. Dogs live healthier and happier lives when they've been fixed. We all want our pets to live as long as possible. I think he also looks big and you will have to find a female bigger which is hard to do and the pups will be VERY hard to sell if they're are going to be above the breed standard. |
well 1 reason is i would like to see what him and my female will produce. second because i would like to keep one of there pups for myself and my 2 nieces want one but mom doent just go forking over 1000 dollars a pup. if i can learn enough i kind of want to be a breeder in the future but educating myself comes first. |
thanks. i said honesty and thats exactly what i wanted. thanks for being honest and you werent harsh at all i will never learn if everyone blows smoke up my butt. thanks to everyone that responded.oh lol and the hair..........thats totally my fault working on learning the grooming thing too. |
male You want an honest and frank opinion. I have 35 years experince breeding, so I hope that qualifies me to give an opinion. Your male is not breed quality. The main goal of breeding is to improve the breed. You must take the standard and compare to your male. Kimberly has listed some of his faults and I do not need to add. Your boy is a wonderful pet I am sure and should be neutered..IMO. If he was sold to you as a breed prospect, I feel you should contact the breeder and they should compensate you. That was harsh, but honest, sorry. |
its the pics that must be making him look big but i also have took out the measuring ruler thanks for your response. i can see what you mean about a couple things there that you stated. he is 4.5 lbs and someone else asked if i had a bigger female she is 7 lbs.all of sampsons brothers and sisters from the last litter his mom had all turned out to be about the same wait if not smaller. please keep the replys comming so far it looks like its not such a good idea to breed him. is it still bad to breed him to get my own pet quality pups i already have a home for 4 of them and i really wanted another yorkie just for myself.i feel selfish even asking |
no no its not harsh at all i have to say between you and txshopper and femivstr you all have given me lots of useful information its a good thing i dont have your phone number.lol i would be on the phone with you all the time. like i had stated earlier i just want to do the right thing. maybe in the future one of you will have a beautiful pup for me to buy cant have enough yorkies!!! |

breeding Why not take your girl to a quality stud and get a litter if you really want puppies when the time comes? I can put you in touch with a breeder who is fair on price. |
smoke....Kimberley, you slayed me with that one! We love making new friends, but don't get on the phone with Kimberly unless you're mobile. LOL! As far as breeding him just to produce one litter of pet quality pups, it's just not a great idea. Once you use him for stud, he will never be the same guy again. He will mark everything possible and lose his tiny mind anytime anyone is in heat within a mile of your house. Fix him, make him the house mascot...and start doing some research with the crew on here if you're really serious about getting into breeding. |
hey now that sounds lik a good idea. you can contact me any time my female is 11 months so i have some time before she will be ready |
Wow, you got Pat hooking you up...you might not realize but that is a very big deal and you can't go wrong following any advice from that corner. Sounds like you're in for the ride. |
sounds good we have some time before makya is ready. with all of you out there im sure to find someone that has a stud muffin! too bad i didnt find this website before. i keep saying this but i love it! |
I have a question. It seems to me that getting reasonably priced pet quality Yorkies for your nieces is fine, especially if they're neuter or spayed when the time comes. But how much risk is it to the mother considering that (I'm assuming) you haven't bred dogs before? We had Susan and Little Bit spayed because we got a discount from the breeder by promising to do so, so we needed to keep that promise, but MOSTLY because we didn't want the little girls endangered by stray dogs that would hang around while they were in heat and because if there should have been an accident, we've never dealt with small breed puppies and we were worried the worst could happen. I don't want to scare you unnecessarily though. Dogs have puppies all the time and Mom and I are worry warts. Like I said, I think getting pets for your nieces this way is not a bad idea provided it isn't likely to endanger your little girl. But remember, they aren't going to be free puppies, just less expensive than buying them. There are likely to be some fairly considerable expenses, some of them possibly foreseeable. The YT breeders will know how much of a concern these things really are. |
I am sure that your little man is a loving friend. I/M/O he is not what I would call breeding quality. I would suggest that you have him neutered. From his pictures I see too many things that are faults- It would be hard to breed him to your female and not pass this on to puppies. Your female would have to be almost perfect according to the standard to make up for what I do not like physically in your little guy. |
thanks for replying i know there may be dangers invovled. well i was going to before reading replys. i do have expierance with puppy delivery and i worked at a vets office for a couple years so i know a little. im new to yorkies. these are my first yorkies. a far as costly the only way we can run up a large bill is if theres a problem. i have been saving just in case.just 2 weeks ago my friend was the worry wart and i took control and helped deliver 4 puppies. i also took them to the vet for dew claws and there tails. i would say where i live its not much for your vet visits. i know for 3 puppies tails and dew claws were 18 dollars shots.if everyone is healthy then i estimate about 100 dollars from start to fishish. and yes it will cost me money but im not too worried about cost part of wanting to be responsible is haveing money put aside just in case problems do arise. i have to say my 2 yorkies were not cheap if i can spend that much on them i better be able to come up with money for her care. as for my neices they would never breed they are very resposible more responsible then my own kids. i truthfully would have the puppy spayed or neutered before we delivery the pup. they will have to wait until threre pups are older to make that car ride all the way to north carolina. see i know i can give them a yorkie or 2 and it will cost out of my pocket but the girls have wanted a dog for years cant have one because of my one neices allison has astma a yorkie is perfect for them there mom knows but the girls dont. i know they will be in a good home and im not interested in making money off my yorkies but i did want another one for myself. i think i might try to find a stud instead of using sampson. thanks agian for youe reply |
yes im going to take everyones advise thats why i wanted the truth! i do have to say thanks agian. ive been to your web page kls yorkies, you have some beautiful yorkies. i will keep checking your sight for any new little guys and girls. very nice website! |

Thank you for the compliment. I try very hard to have nice kids and I am always striving to improve. We have several litters due in Dec. that I am anxiuos to see if my next show puppy is there. I love to work with folks and would be glad to try and help you from long distance. Country Girl here on YT has one of Dxie's little guys and got a BOB from a show last weekend. |
I have seen the pictures and response in regards to your male but I'm just curious about your female. How does she represent the breed? |
