yorkie prego hello everyone, i am new to this site and have two wonderful yorkies. i believe my female yorkie maybe prego, but not sure what the signs are, I have google a lot and got some info, and also have an appt with the vet next week but if any one has info the can share i would greatly appreciate. They began to mate back on the 14th or 15th of February. so she is probably about 3 wks into the pregnancy if she is really prego. Thanks in advance for any info. :):D;) |

I have assisted in whelping several litters of pups through out the years including my own as well a few litters of kitten from time to time. I am in no way an expert but I have done intense research in great detail in order to prepare myself for breeding / whelping my own Yorkies. You need to start feeding her puppy food if you havn't already. Than start getting your supplies ready now so that you are totally prepared for any surprises that may occur durring whelping. Hello Dawn27, currently I cant get my yorkie to eat anything, she only eats maybe a handful of food daily. I read that they lose there appetite, but I dont no for how long.... Is it to early to feed her puppy food and do you have recommended brands for puppy food. |
She should start to feel heavier and rounder soon. It is hard to tell much until they are 5 to 6 weeks. I have one due on April 2 and she is just now starting to feel heavier when I pick her up. some lose their appetite for a while, but it should come back soon. I give mine a half boild egg and a tablespoon of cottage cheese the last two weeks and while theym are nursing, for extra protein and calcium. Good Luck to you. |
M girls are always very picky- the best thing I've foun to get them to eat is the royal canin 'mini starter- mother and babydog' specifically for pregnant and nursing bitches and weaning puppies... You could also try adding a doggy gravy to it if she won't eat the food... And I just read the newer posts on the other thread- since you don't have a mentor, did you know to study both the male and females lines; for temperaments, health, free-whelp ability, size etc? If you didn't find it out before the mating, would you be able to get in touch with both breeders to ask for the info now? I'm sure they wont mind answering your questions! If there has been a c-section or two needed, it's better to know now Just incase your girl inherited the related issues... Has she gotten more clingy to you yet? My missy is due on march 18th and she only started to get a belly this week- and she's had two litters of 6! So a scan is really the only cert for telling; and you know to get an X-ray near the end? |
I am no breeder but from the research that I did when my dog was having false pregnancy was that the vet may be able to feel the pups at or around this time. Since you are going in next week you may find out then if she is. Other than that I know the sonogram can tell or you can wait till she is closer to being due and then have an xray which is great to have since it can tell you how many and if they will fit. Some of the common signs in real pregnancy and false are swollen vulva, enlarged teats, and there may or may not be swelling in the abdomen. My girl had it all and she had no puppies. The vet said she sure looked like there was pups in there but never had any. Towards the last week or so you will be able to feel and see them move and then you know it is real. Sorry I wasn't much help but I don't know of any other way to tell until she sees the vet and then they may still not be able to tell yet. |
why did you allow your dogs to breed??? are you an experienced breeder working with a mentor or did you just randomly decide to try something new. dogs are not pawns that we can play a little game of breed and create puppies with...they are LIVING THINGS so unless you know what you are doing here my advice would be to go in for an emergency spay and DO NOT try to whelp puppies with no experience. you could loose the pups and the mom trying to do something that you've never done before. |

To be perfectly clear...I am also passionate about responsible breeding. I just feel we need to ask and answer questions before we recommend someone giving an emergency spay to a pregnant yorkie. |

I can honestly say...not EVERYONE agrees with the spaying of a pregnant yorkie!!!! That should be reserved for specific situations..esp. if the male is unknown or the pregnancy poses a danger for the female!! I hope everything goes well for your little female...and if she's pregnant...her pups!:) |
