**BREEDERS- We're in labor***
 

So momma is in labor, shes had 3 of her 5 puppies... things have been ok, she hasnt opened any of the sacs, we've had to help with everything. Puppy #2 had a green placenta & when wiped down he was covered in green, but hes breathing fine, eating & cuddled with his sisters... puppy #3 didnt have a placenta & shes was bleeding pretty heavy & now its died down... but its been about 35-40 mins already since last puppy & no contractions or labor... suggestion, advice... anything please!!!!

I am a lil bit of a nervous wreck right now but im doing ok & just want to make sure that everything is normal... all advice is welcome PLEASE!

I spoke to my ER vet here & they told me that things should be ok... as long as her breathing is ok, its ok to go a little while without any labor... I will keep everyone updated. But anymore info will be welcomed.

I know nothing about breeding so am no help there, but wanted to say I'll be praying for it all to go well for you. Good luck. It is so late at night, there aren't many people on the board hear to respond, but my thoughts are with you. (Gee and a full moon too;))

I have such a difficult time replying to any thread. I'm typing & the nextthing I know it gets sent without making any sense. So I am tring again.
First things first...always make sure you (the midwife) is comfortable. You need to stay relaxed, have a gd book, magazine, tv so that you stay comfortable. Next make sure you have all your first aid at hand, then rarely do you need it.
The last two litters I have had were slow, 2 hr apart between the pups. Unfortunately her last pup was between 3-4hr apart & that was a bit too long.
When that puppy arrived I had to work to get him breathing. CPR for approx 3-5 min. & then I remembered I had heard that oxygen can make the difference. One of the breeders I bought a bitch from gave me that advice. It wasn't until that moment I remembered &got my husband to get it going.
What a difference!! I really thought we had lost that pup but after 5 min on. Oxygen the pup completely revived & I couldn't tell the difference from the others.

Sounds like thing are going well.
Just make sure all placenta's are accounted for if not you will need
to get your girl in to the vets today for a clean out shot.

We are in hour 6 of labor & still missing one more pup & its taking forever!!! I feel soo bad for her she is a trooper but is super tired.

It's already been two hours since last puppy. If another couple hours pass with no last baby then I would take her to the vet. She might need some assistance.

Hi guys... so, so far we are doing OK... momma went to the vet & did an xray, puppy is totally stretched out inside of momma, so we dont knw what that could mean- Good or Bad- they checked her calcium before being able to give her the injection to induce & that came back good, so they gave her the injection at around 9am, we are now waiting to see if she finally pushes the puppy out, if not I have to rush her to another vet to do the c-section.

Another good thing is while we were at the vet waiting for the doctor, the techs were able to help me get the puppies to attach & they did which also helped with contractions... Thank you all for the prayers & I know YT prayers are strong so please keep praying, I know momma is out of the woods & safe, now just for this puppy to come out alive.

Just seeing this...hoping all goes well with the last baby!

So no 5th baby.. they have decided to do the c-section, I will know more at 3PM, I am going o feed the puppies & take a nap, BBL

I am a little confused...are they going to wait to do the c-sec at 3pm? Could they still hear a heartbeat? If so at 3pm, isn't that a little long to leave the baby in the momma? She must be so miserable. I feel for her.

OK... sooo the latest update we JUST got was gd news & bad news... momma finally passed the 5th baby but he was passed away, so it now all makes sense. They were going to wait another 1.5hrs from 1045 to see if she passed the puppy & if she didnt they were going to move onto the c-section, the vet didnt think she was going to pass it so the c section was scheduled, but then around 1130 she passed the baby but got the bad news.

I am glad that momma is alright, its ok that the 5th one went to heaven way too early, but god knows what he does & only he can understand that decision, I am happy I have 4 beautiful babies & my momma... so this is the final news of the day, I will be picking her up in about an hour just so she can stay in observation, we are trying to feed the puppies but they are stubborn-ed, Im thinking of buying the syringe or dropper, maybe we wont have such an issue.

I am so sorry for the loss of the little one but I am glad momma and her other 4 are doing good. :):)

Yes I have, I hand fed momma when she was born. Bottle fed her for about 2.5 weeks. So this is easy for me, but they just dont want to latch, maybe they dont like the taste of it after having mommys milk... well mommy will be home shortly so hopefully we can have a happy reunion. :)

I'm so sorry you lost a puppy...but glad that momma and remaining 4 are doing well!! Congrats!

I know hand feeding is not always easy like you said
sometimes the little turds don't want to feed from a bottle.
And I'm sorry about the loss of the other baby but glad to hear mom is OK.
I would be careful if mom is still a little out of it when you bring her home so she does hurt the pups.
