Hey Dawn, I'm sorry that you have had to deal with all of this. I'm also here in Ohio and I'd really like to exchange information with you so we may be able to chat off the board. I have two yorkies and a litter of puppies. I guess I'm as bad as you :(. I know there are champions in both their bloodlines and no health problems in the last 4 generations but I certainly didn't have them tested for all the genetic issues I've read about on here. Like you, It was my hope to give other families the joy of owning a Yorkie at an affordable price. After all the costs of vet visits and misc stuff I'm not making $$ on this venture. I did it out of love for the breed. email me at rheyne@live.com if you want to chat. |
We all start some place...but never make the mistake of saying..."I breed pets", so those snobbish show breeders rules do not apply to me. In my mind there are not two kinds of breeders...(those who breed pets and those who breed show dogs)...we should all strive to breed to the standard...plain and simple. Look at each litter of pups and say..."What can I do to improve next time"...if a breeder is not going forward, they are slipping backwards..it is the law of Mother Nature....and she is a real bitch...you have to stay way ahead. I looked at your site..very well done. Your bitch has erect ears..I looked at the litter of puppies...have you seen these pups as adults? How many of the 5have erect ears? If any have flop ears, please use another stud...or perhaps his male is a different stud and if so I applaud you for making a big effect to improve. Best wishes |

Great job you guys I think this thread is a great example of how actually communicating with a person can go so much further in helping them to learn than straight up confronting them ever will. This is a written forum, and so, often, one member's passionate efforts to educate come across as confrontational and critical, when that is not really the intent. And it is so easy to become offended when a person's passion blindsides you, especially when you feel it is directed towards you. I want to applaud each of the members who took a part in this little exchange. With one apology and a little understanding (on both sides) each of you were able to learn a bit more about where the other was coming from. I wish that more threads reached these sort of conclusions, so that every member could be enriched with the knowledge that the experts on here so obviously possess... without being made to feel angry and defensive. To the OP: It's so obvious that you genuinely care about your dogs, and that you really want to be the best breeder that you can be. I hope that you eventually come to realize just how much the members here share that love and passion... And how much they can help you along the way to becoming the best possible breeder that you can be. The ladies (and gentlemen) on here have a wealth of knowledge. My advice to you is to keep an open mind so that you can benefit as much as you possibly can from it. I'm sure you'll learn along the way just why the members on here feel so passionately about the things that they do... :) Best of luck and well wishes to all :):):):) |
