However, it should be noted that the American Boxer Club Code of Ethics prohibits breeders from charging full price for a white puppy. Instead, they may collect a refundable spay/neuter deposit, and charge for veterinary expenses directly related to the puppy (as of 9/29/04). Veterinary expenses directly related to a puppy may vary widely, however, and in some cases may be higher than the average price of a pet colored puppy."

PLEASE read my original post then response...respecfully...I said that if you do your homeowork...attend dog shows...THIS IS #1...with time and experience you can find a quality bitch or dog without having to spend thousands of dollars...I've done it, my sister has done it,...I will come to your club and show you my results...AND STILL NOT A ONE OF YOU HAVE SAID THAT I HAVE GIVEN THIS PERSON WRONG ADVICE...You all have gone on a tangent about me advicing someone to buy a pup from the newspaper... I did noy advise this...I SAID I LOOKED AT TENS OF LITTERS...and know the breed standard...GEEEEZE!!!!!

Ah Gimme a break. I just got back from the Nationals and was around my Southern friends. It's amazing how quickly it comes back.

What is being said is that what you've done is not the norm.

You did advise to buy from the classifieds, as you did it. And buying this way you don't know what your dog will produce. You don't know the lines, you haven't followed the dam/sire offspring and their offspring. Not good advice no matter how you spin it.

What has been omitted her is having your dog evaluated; not only health tested but evaluated, by a qualified judge/breeder/handler/exhibitor.

You can't go to shows and sit as a spectator and learn the breed. Impossible, can't do it without a mentor.

You can read all you want, attend as many shows as you want. But with out a quality mentor, you are never going to start a quality breeding program. And I guarantee, a good mentor is not going to tell anyone that they will find a good breeder from the classifieds. They are going to send them in the direction of another quality breeder with a proven history of healthy dogs that consistently meet breed standard. And a good stud owner isn't going to want to dilute their lines with a substandard bitch either.

If you say you got a good one after looking at 10's of litters, then lucky you. But it isn't the norm.

We've all stated that you have given wrong advice.

Now should your method, over time stack up against the Roberta Rothenbachs, Lorraine Hayes, Doreen Hubbards, Gordon Sisters.....then I might concede that your way is ok.

And until you have a record that matches the aforementioned and all the top breeders that came before them....maybe, just maybe I'll listen and afford you the same allegence that I give them.

One might get lucky and might choose the healther pup from a litter when buying from a newpaper, sure. BUT, bargin shopping for a pup is not something I am willing to do. I got a steal on Maddie from the classifieds, however, 2 and a half years later and numerous trips to our vet, the Emergency clinic, and the UT Vet. school to see specialists...$1000 dollars doesn't begin to touch what I have spent on her. All these trips were for ONE genetic disorder she has.

Who can afford to pay $1000 for a pup?
The answer is simple- IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD IT, DON'T BUY ONE.

ETA: I bought Maddie before I was a member here and found YT while searching for answers one Sunday as she was running around dragging her face on the floor.

STUDY THE BREED STANDARD...THEN GO TO AS MANY DOG SHOWS AS POSSIBLE...you say you can't study a dog from shows...then explain how you do...what is this magic formula that your mentor taught you...you have yet to mention this...you really should run for president...all you do is talk in circles...Invite me to your club...I'll bring my newspaper bitch with me...lets talk monetary...quality...conformation...I dare you...your always defending never giving fact...GIVE THE BREAK DOWN...

Lady, you have no idea. If I wanted to "disrespect" you, I would have. You are pretty much a clueless troll. I hope to God you never breed any dog, much less sold them. Your go on ad Nauesem when some of the most knowledgeable people in the Yorkie world have given you great advice. (No, not me, I am not a breeder, just a Yorkie owner and yorkie lover). Also, be advised that a Marine is not a Soldier. A Soldier is in the Army. Thanks for the Boy reference though. Guess you have had time in on the plantation. Try to remember that for your next ding, or I will have to go back and type real slow again.

Which part of "I found a good quality bitch" from the newspaper not advocating that route? But I do note that you said good quality, not great quality. So just how many champions have you thrown off of that good quality bitch?
