| ![]() I did not find anything rude in what Bama said. In fact she even stated that you have gone above and beyond what most people would have done. I think you just hit a sore spot for most people because "accidental" breeding is risky, for your little girl, and for the puppies. You just never know what is going to happen...too often it turns out tragic. She is defending the integrity of the breed in my opinion. Just that breeding should be done after multiple tests to ensure health... Would YOU buy a puppy from your litter knowing the circumstances? It was stated that it was, and should have been, preventable. That is not an attack toward you, or your decision. Not an attack that I saw anyway.

Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | ![]() Sometimes posts similar to those which Bama posted can seem nasty or sharp, but in actual fact they are the opposite. Posts like Bama's are probably the most caring posts here because all she is trying to do is save you from possible heartache.

| ![]() It is not uncommon for a vet to inquire about the breeding when a health issue arises.. |

| ![]() Eh....I don't think it's the OP that took an issue with what I said. I think it's just someone else trying to make it something it's not. The almighty power of suggestion. It's a common go-to tactic when trying to draw attention away from one's self. ![]() |

| ![]() I'm not going to criticize the OP but I will say I do not support her decision. I still believe the right decision is to spay the bitch. Even for as long as I've been in yorkies and it's not as long as some that are on YT I would never let a bitch have puppies at that young age and bred to her brother. It's just not the risk I'm willing to take for the puppies life nor the bitch's life. Now that is "prolife" ![]() Donna |

| ![]() hi to all! I want to start off by sending my deepest apologies to those especially bama as my eyes have been opened more on the breeder aspect and the eyes of a true breeder with true passion to the breed. Most of you if not all, have lots of experience that i just do not have and trust me when i say i do and have listened to all advice even if that is not the route i have chosen. I cant continue to read and feel as if i may have started some type of drama based off my postings and i am not ok with that. I am still open to all advice on whelping to have a successful whelp etc. Although some may not agree with my decision of allowing my treasure to have her pups i understand but it is the route i chose based off my continuous strive to get as much knowledge and info and the ok from vet. I would like to continue to be able to ask for help if needed when pups are born etc and share the joy with all when they are here. I may not be experienced but i am willing ready and able to learn what i need to make this a successful whelping for the pups and treasure and i am willing to deal with whatever comes my way vet bills etc but in the mean time if anyone has anything that they do feel i should know considering that i am allowing her to have her pups please do not hesitate to let me know your advice etc. After all this is an open forum. Again i send my deepest apologies if i may have said wrong things and i so deeply wouldl ike to learn the great knowledge of the best and loyal and passionate breeders! ![]() |

As the subject of whelping is a big one, it would be better to ask specific questions, of the experienced breeders here. In your last vet visit, where your vet was speaking to the previous owners about lineage, did he also find out what health tests were done, and what health problems have occurred in this line? For a list of those health tests please see article referenced above. Specifically at this point is your bitch free of LP as well as her brother? Have they both been BAT tested? This gives you an idea of liver function. If not the brother certainly can be BAT tested right now. If both dogs have Luxating Patella, the risks are very high, that the pups will have LP. A manual physical exam by a good vet should be able to correctly assess for LP, but an Xray needs to be done and read by a specialist to appropriately grade the severity of it. Low graded LP usually doesn't negatively affect the quality of life for the pup/dog, but higher grades do, and may require surgery to fix the problem. Eye Test: Has a cerf been done on bitch/sire, and how about their parents. Are they free of PRA? For an explanation of what this is, please see referenced article. This condition is inherited and will cause eventual blindness in the dog. You might question why do these tests now? For me, my answer would be, forewarned is forearmed. It also means that there maybe things I can do proactively to avoid and or help my dogs, live happy and healthy lives. For example with LP Graded one or two, jumping off couches or chairs etc, wouldn't be allowed. I would probably not put them in sports which require good strong and aligned joints; such as agility, flyball, etc. I would look to engage the dogs in activities that strengthen the muscles of the legs. Underwater treadmill, swimming, are all great activities for this condition. I would be adding chondrotin and glucosamine in proper amounts to their food. As a breeder, it is my duty and responsibilty to the breed and to the future owners of my pups to do the best I can to only breed healthy good representatives of the breed. The BAT test for the bitch will have to wait until after the weaning of the pups. Labour: Were there any complications with labour in this dam's mom? Was a C section necessary? Some more food for thought.

| ![]() Congratulations on a safe whelp. Looking back on the posts, I see where it was less than 2 weeks from your knowing she was pregnant and the birth of the babies. Given that, I understand your decision. Best of luck with the babies and I wish the best for them. BTW, did the vet already do the tails? It looks that way in the photo.

| ![]() Oh my goodness. I'm so happy all went well. They are precious. Be sure to keep the whelping box warm (85 degrees) and weigh them twice a day. One of my babies quit gaining after having tails and dew claws done and I had to supplement. Your babies look great. |
