Thanks Pat and you are right. Fame, I believe is not in my opinion, only about striving to breed the best you can but also what have you contributed to the breed overall in kindness, dealing with issues, taking the time to provide the information to newcomers or indeed any dog owner looking for help and encouragement.
Which is where Yorkierose comes in. I don't know that I would still be in this if it weren't for Pat and her encouragement in my darkest and most discouraged days.
Not only a great breeder but an awesome Christian is our Pat, YorkieRose and valuable asset to this forum as well.

And the lady that was very instrumental in forming the YTCA
Kay Finch/Crown Crest Kennels - began in 1958 and AKC acceptance was in 1958. The Club was formed in California.

In this country, well-known and famous mean the same thing. Famous no longer holds the connotation "esteemed" with it for most people. Infamous, on the other hand, means ill famed or well known, usually unfavorably.

Camparis is a breeder. It is in the Parkside pedigree and of course others.

She was an akc judge and breeder or afghan and yorshires. Didn't she die in 1986? She left behind a legacy for many things relating to dogs. Kay Finch made Cailf pottery. Some molds were sold to Freeman/McFarland. Some were exclusive, one of a kind. The collections also include birds, fish and other things.

Kay did pottery with Anne Serrane. Anne Serrane another asset to the breed. ;)

Susan made some of the most unique items..we all looked forward to the Oct Specialty when she "showcased" some wonderful creation...I had a complete hand made ceramic tea set she made...gave it away when I moved...
She made these wonderful boxes that looked like a fancy gift...the side let down and there was a Yorkie diaroma (sp) inside...

I don't have the pleasure of owning any of her creations. But, showed to her a couple of times. Once in Kansas City and the other at The Bluebonnet Specialty. Both times my Go-Go went BOS.

Yep! The YTCA pin is of her creation.

I have one of Anne Serrane's cook books....it was given to exhibitors at one of the YTCA Nationals

I always admired her Maltese over her Yorkies...I had one girl..only got to 3 pounds, Molly.

I haven't hear much of her over the last couple of years. Other than she did DQ when the DQ first came out.

Thanks Mary. When I was looking for a Yorkie last year I called my friend in England who I got Penni from and I wasn't familiar with the American lines - my Penni was bought in England while we were back there for a 5 year tour of duty. Both Penni and Tuppence had Ozmilion in their pedigree.
She said it would be good for me to find a Durrer line. So, I did some searching and found Peg Horner of Northern-Lites in Michigan.
She didn't have any puppies at the time, but she had Beamer, who was almost a year old.
He is such a joy to have, and the vet says he is a very healthy little boy. His grandfather is Durrer's Impulse, who Peg co-owns with Betty Anne Durrer.

I love the Pastoral and Aero and NicNak lines a WHOLE lot LOL...Mary was Montclair mentioned? Montclair the Devil Himself was a great dog! I sure with I could have seen Oliver show in his heyday! Some great lines were mentioned!

Yes, Montclair was mentioned. Got Mr. Devil Himself is in my pedigree as, he's in yours.

I would rather answer in this manner. It is not a place I would go to add to my lines.
The others mentioned, I would go there to add/compliment my line and have done. Many of them are in my pedigrees.

This is a really interesting thread! Poor Barney and Daisy have none of those names. They got names like Maggie May and Buck's Shot and there are no Ch. in front of anyone's name. I love them just the same but trust me they are neutered and spayed! I'm wondering if they are even yorkies!! LOL

When you love them the names behind them don't matter. LOL....my Ruby's pedigree:rolleyes: lists Joe and Abby but she is loved just as much as my boy with Ch.'s behind him, as are my parti boy, Razz and rescue poodle Louis.

The famous breeders would be the ones that win most all the times in AKC if in the USA shows and have many champions, as well as their champions producing champions. They have proved their dogs by the wins they have and continue to have. All ones has to do is either look at the champions in yorkies for the years or see the winning record list. If one is researching and learning, like one should about the breed, they know who the famous breeders are or were. Since YT is International - There are famous breeders in other countries and for those one only has to go to their wins in their country.

This is a most informative thread! To hear of all the top breeders and others. Oh, and yes Terry Shumsky is sadly missed for all her contributions to the Yorkshire Terrier.

Hi, Oz still shows a little, met him this year at CRUFTS, such a lovely man, so down to earth a real sweetie pie. We had a little chat, well as much as you can at a Top Show, he signed his book I've had for years and an old Our Dogs mag which did a fab article on him in 1988. We have great breeders in the UK, I was very lucky to speak to Mrs Crowther "Candytops" only yesterday, another super UK breeder and she won Best of Breed Crufts 2009. I have lots of info, UK Clubs annuals etc. PM me if you want further info, I would love to give anyone interested any info I have and I have lots, Annie Swann, Ethel Munday etc and some very old history books on the breed. :aimeeyork

I had a UK friend who knew Lily Lees..she introduced her to Ethel Munday and her daughter...then she met Oz..he came to Lily's home to sell my friend a puppy which she brought back to the US with her...
Shirley said they were the most helpful people...I found UK breeders tended to admire the DOG more then the breeder..showing is the sport that is it suppose to be...but things do change and get jaded everwhere I am sure...LOL
