hi,
im still in shock. i went to the shop for maybe 30mins and by the time i got back to my house, one of my 7 1/2 week old puppies was just lying on the floor- she passed away when i was gone...
she was booked- the lady who booked her lost her last furbaby in a road accident about 3 months ago, so was getting this puppy to try and heal that missing peice in her heart.
my qusetion is, how do i tell her? im assuming at least one of you have had a booked puppy pass away in your care.
i really don't know what to say- i know it will break her heart.
i'm taking the puppy tomorrow to the vet for a post mortim to see what happened, but i think she just banged her head hard on the side of a chair- its the only thing i can think of...

i just really dont know what to say.

I'm so sorry you lost one of your pups. I think the best will be to just be honest and tell her what happened. The longer you wait the worse it will be. There really is no easy way to say something like that.

That is terribly sad, I am so sorry. I totally agree about being honest and tell her sooner rather than later.

It is very sad to lose a puppy of that age...so sorry.
Was she penned while you were out..that helps prevent accidents?
All you can do is tell the buyer the puppy died and you are waiting a post mortum for more insight.

yea, i do intend on telling her exactly what happened... partly what i meant is should i call her; or go to her house- she lives a few streets away and she gave me her address?
thats hardly a thing you can tell someone over the phone is it?

It would be very nice to call on her at her home..she will see how upset you are and understand.

Yes, a visit is much more caring than a phone call. This is so hard on you both. Are the other puppies ok? Have them looked at by the vet too.

i went up to see her this afternoon- she took it better than i did.
the litter is due the 1st vaccine on wed so they are gonna get checked out then...
all the puppies had been booked since before they were born- she asked that too.
thankfully she explained to her kids what happened after i left- there was no way i was telling a little girl that her puppy wasnt going home!
at least the others are all doing ok, i rarely left the house before, but im not leaving them unatended for another minute (i called a freind to get her to watch them while i was at the vets and the ladys house)
i just can't believe shes gone...

I'm so sorry for the loss of your puppy.

Puppy tending is a 24/7 job for 12 weeks, and things happen when we run an errand. We can't leave puppies unattended. It sounds like they were not in a secure area. Hopefully other new breeders will learn from your sad experience.

hi,
im not long off the phone with the vet- there was only minor external trauma meaning that it was probably caused by a pre-existing neurological problem (such as an anurism) and a small knock on the head triggered it.
the area was completely secure which is why it was such a shock- but it could have even been caused by something as innocent as her playing with her siblings.

the vet assumes it was very quick, and the shock would have meant she wouldnt have felt much, and she had her momma there when she passed; so she wasnt alone.

Well,
It seems that this situation was like a "time bomb" just waiting to happen, so it may have been the best that it did happen right now and not later on after the puppy was home and that girl attached. Somethings are not anyone's fault and will happen.

I am so sorry you lost one of your babies. Over the years I have heard so many stories where pups get killed in accidents such as being dropped, falling off things, running into things, etc. They are all so delicate and tragedy can strike in an instance no matter how careful we are.

I do have one question, was there any adult yorkies running loose with them besides the mother?

I know it's tough to lose a puppy at any age, so you may want to keep this in mind for the future. I don't promise puppies to buyers until they are ready to go to pet homes at 12 weeks of age. There are just too many things that can go wrong, and telling someone the puppy they had their heart set on is dead is just something I don't want to be ever have to do.

I think she meant as the puppy had a pre-existing neurological problem, that it was like a time bomb waiting to go off, it could have happened at any time. Puppy could have gone to her new home and could easily have bumped into something while playing that would have had the same disastrous results. I don't believe Smartiepuppiepets meant anything untoward with the comment.

There is no way any of us can watch our puppies 24/7. Accidents happen no matter how careful we are.

We have to sleep, eat , shower, cook, run the vacuum, etc. Things can happwen in the blink of pan eye, and sometimews it is NO onsfaujlt.

I'm sorry that you lost the puppy. That must have been horrible to find him like that.

I am glad it was explained right away... i had no intention of being hard on anyone with my comment , not at all.
Some things just run out of our control, it is sad the puppy passed, but i believe it would have been worse if it happened after the puppy had gone home, specially with a girl involved.
Unfortunate situation anyways.

I realized your post had been misunderstood.
I hate it when a furbaby dies, and especially such a small baby. It would have been terrible for it to happen in its new forever home, when the new owner would have been so attached to it. It is heartbreaking for a breeder to lose a puppy.
