Keeping in mind, the standard is written for breeders/exhibitors as a goal to strive to. The standard is a written guideline on what a dog of certain breed should look and act like. When breeders deviate from the standard, one breed begins to look like another, that's why a good breed club tries to preserve and protect the written standard, as that preserves the breed. Breeders in the past tried very hard to breed out certain things, a breed doesn't need huge variation within the breed. When you hear the word Yorkshire terrier, you should be able to picture what that breed will look like. |
