Betty, can you tell us how things are at the moment? Have you seen any signs of contractions? Have you checked her rear end to see if there's a bubble present or if the area between her vulva and behind has flattened out and has enlarged? Any discharges from her besides the water and how long has it been since you noticed that? |
ive only ever delivered cats im nooo expert but what ide do clear the water sac away from the puppy's nose and mouth first. Hold the puppy at a downward angle to help drain fluid and mucus from its nose and throat. use the bulb syringe ( snot sucker ) sweep it in the mouth a few times and in each nostril Rub the puppy vigorously with a dry, clean towel until the puppy squeaks. This rubbing will both clean the puppy and stimulate it to start breathing. as long as its breathing ok try to get it to suckle as soon as you can. Im sure ive left a ton out but its a start! |
Thanks guys for taking over. Remember if you need me don't hesitate to call. You too Betty, your girl is depending on you, so don't hesitate to ask questions, give info and/or call. |
i feel like its my dog giving birth i hope she comes back soon |
I PM'd her my # so she can call. She mentioned internet problems but hope she can get back on to see the messages. |
OK, I just got off the phone with Betty. No hard labor yet but just got her to give me a heads up on her situation. No signs of distress...all seems good at this point. I gave her some info on what to expect as things progress and what to watch out for. I hope to hear from her later. I'll be staying up for a while longer and will keep the phone nearby if I drop off to sleep. At this point Betty could use some YT prayers for a safe and uneventful whelp for Baby Girl (her Yorkie). I'll post again with any news. |
Hope everything's alright... Any news? Edited- Ahh thanks for the update Woogie |
Sending up prayers for Baby Girl. I hope this morning she is ok and her pups have been whelped safely and are healthy. |
Didn't hear from Betty during the night. Wondering if anyone else has. |
Praying for baby girl and her little ones. |
Was checking to see if Betty posted during the night. I talked to her around 1 AM and Baby Girl was still like she described in her earlier posts. I would have thought there would be some progress by now. |

Thanks for talking to her. |
Mary, when I talked to her Baby Girl was pretty much the same. The water had broke around 7:30 last night (central time) so it's been over 12 hours. Something should have happened by now. BTW, Baby Girl is a 5 year old Yorkie whose normal weight is between 6-7 pounds. Betty is not the original owner and Baby Girl has had 1 litter before about 2 years ago. |

I just got off the phone with her. Baby Girl seems to be going into stage 2. There is a bulge in her rear but no pup presented yet. Some hard contractions are starting. I have to be away for about an hour. I told her to not hesitate to call you. Also, I'm PMing you her #. |
Has anyone heard more from the OPer? I'm hoping she comes back to update and the puppies were delivered safely. Mary and Jim you are both great. Thank you for always stepping up to help in situations like this. :( |

i've been watching this thread since last night. Was hoping to see new pups this morning. I can't believe she still hasnt' had them since her water broke 14 hours ago. Mary, with dogs if they deliver so long after their water breaks is there a chance the pups will need special care afterwards? i only ask cause my friend (human) had her water break at 1am and didn't have her baby until 7:30pm that same day. Her baby had to go into NICU because she was having trouble breathing. They said it was because she was in the womb for so long after the water broke. |

I have been holding my breath since this morning when I read it all. I just joined this group recently and am so happy to see how much you all care....especially staying up and helping Betty. Mary and Jim, you are both very special people! Good going, Betty!! You must be exhausted. Will keep looking for updates. Dyan |
Glad you were up this morning, Mary. I hated to leave her as I knew a pup was on the way. I came home to find one of my neighbor's cats giving birth in my driveway. It's been a crazy morning.... |

Betty, If you're able to read this, as I don't want to call you cause I know you're busy, either put the puppy's butt to the mother's mouth so she can diaper it. Or take a cotton ball or wash cloth that you have wet with warm water and massage the pups anus. |

I cautioned her about the cord so glad she monitored the Mom cutting it. She wasn't given much good info by her vet so was really unprepared. Last night I just told her enough to deliver the pups and get them settled in. Didn't want to over-whelm her with too much info. I'm sure she'll need some guidance after the whelp on after-care. |

She is contacting her husband to pick up some basic supplies on the way home from work. I told her that when things settle down we'll talk so, that I can give her a list of basic supplies she'll need to have on hand. |
