Mini is nursing and seems to have enough milk ... for now. IDenise, I used syringes and they sucked so hard they pulled the plunger in by themselves! Oh, but they much prefer having Mini and being able to knead her! |
I forgot to add, I had planned to supplement with Goats milk if I had to with a natural birth. Then the Vet gave me Nurturall-C (C for Colestrum) so I used it. I chose the Goats Milk to begin with (unused) because they don't give goats hormones like they do cows. Plus I give Mini liquid calcium, it's the 600IU Life-Line soft gel (w/Vit D). I knead a soft gel capsule, stick a pin in the end of it and squeeze a drop the size of a baby aspirin on her tongue. I also give her cottage cheese. She had to have a Oxytocin injection to bring in her milk, plus we used warm cloths and kneaded her teats after the shot. Milk came in about 8 hours later and she is nursing them, now we have to find a way for her to start cleaning them! |
Sometimes moms will not pee and poop babies who are given supplemental feedings. Guess they don't like the taste of formula poop. YUCK!! Anyhow, the suggestion has already been made to put a little Nutri-cal or Nutri-stat on their hiney.. Ask your vet to tell you how much extra calcium to give. And, they need Vit D and phosphorus to digest the calcium....good luck with those wonderful babies.. |
