Is my girl pregnant? Ok I have a girl and a boy yorkie, my girl was in heat about 2 months ago I saw her bleeding, etc. Both my girl and my boy were put in diapers and separated except to play under supervision. Today they were both outside doing their business and I was upstairs when I heard my girl whimper, I looked outside and sure enough my boy had tied to her, not my plan. Questions: 1. Does a tie always result in a pregnancy? 2. Doesn't the female except the male willingly when she is in heat? 3. Is it possible my girl went into heat again in just two months? I did exactly what I was suppose too to keep them apart at the proper time, and would be upset if she "accidently" got pregnant. She is 2 and he is just over 1. |
it depends...but even with 1 tie there is a great possible that she is pregnant...she could have a split heat...or maybe 2 months ago she wasn't in heat and it was something else...and she is in heat now...no way of telling now unless you are for sure she was in heat 2 months ago... |
Did she swell and bleed 2 months ago? Is she swollen and bleeding now? It could be a split heat. Yes it only takes 1 tie sometimes. |

its possible that she could be pregnant. As some else said, one tie is usually all it takes. but then again, if you said she was already outta heaat 2 months earlier, then perhaps she's not. But a yorkie pregnancy only last 63 days so you will know in about 2 months are sooner.. i dont think they have doggie pregnancy test, but im not sure. Keep us posted. |
Why not make a vet appt on Monday and have them both altered now...all you worries are over... |

Thank you Thank you for all the information. No I am not going to have them fixed because I will bred them in the future as I have planned. I am not well enough versed on breeding to start quite yet, but my plan is to bred excellent quality puppies and price them for the people who are not willing/able to pay $2000+ prices for puppies. I want people to have puppies who will give them the love they deserve, not only those who can afford the high prices. This is just my opinion on the subject, again I am not ready to bred right now, it will be a while. Thank you for the information. |

Oh I'd say that'll be in 63 days from now. :) |

Given that you want to breed in the future at least the cost is merely being outlayed sooner rather than later. You need to put aside the money you will need if your bitch needs a c-section, and of course for all the puppy health checks and shots. If she is not pregnant then you can save all or most of those supplies for when you intentionally breed her. You might want to go to the thread sticky that has been posted about breeding if you've not already done so. Just so you know; a show breeder can easily spend $10,000 to bring a puppy to full grown adult with duly earned Championship title, and then more $$ to put on obedience titles. The cost of all proper health checks are not cheap, OFA, hips/elbows, knees. CERF, Prebreeding Tests, BATS Thryoid, Heart. Now if you have that very very special boy/or girl and you go for top dog the price tag goes up exponentially. Despite what is often times bruted around a conformation show ring is not Just about a "pretty dog". Judges go over the structure of your dog, watch your dog move. And almost as importantly your peers, watch, assess, and you as a fancier and breeder are as eager for their opinion of your dog as you are the judges. Now before we do all that with any puppy we have researched our lines the line we intend to mate with, agonized over various pros and cons, and finally all science rationality done, we take a deep breath, and say okay, yes I will breed my dog to your bitch. Health checks are the minimum we look at!. There is a reason for all this, show breeders want at the minimum to keep beautifull healthy Yorkies being born and bred, and the ultimate goal is to IMProve the Breed. The costs speak for themselves, every quality bred puppy is worth every single cent of $2000 or more. Can you do it for less? Perhaps cut corners, don't show, don't health test, don't provide all the best of care for your puppies. Or do everything to the absolute best and fund the difference out of your own pocket |
Haha Lets hope not, but if so I'm sure I'll do well. I will take my girl to my vet in a few weeks to make sure one way or the other. Thank you for letting me see the light side of this, after all there are far more tragedies in the world than a few georgous little darlings, right? :) |
thank you To Gemy: Money is not a problem for me, please do not assume to know me that way, I admit I am blessed. My dogs are from excellent lines. MY goal is to take out the term "show quality" and take down the price to allow the hard working American who wants to own a yorkie, the opportunity to own one. Realistically, most (I agree not all) people could care less about show quality as they are NEVER going to show their baby, however once a breeder tacks on that term the price goes up. Most (again, not all) people want the yorkie for their traits (small, beautiful, loving). I will NEVER show my babies, nor will I pretend to have show quality yorkies (even if I do) I will do my utmost best to keep quality dogs/puppies and never inbreed or mix breed. I think being British myself I have the right to say this, yorkies are HUNTING dogs, not show dogs. The show ring was invented as a hobby for the British aristocrat and in "my opinion" is pretentious. Also, only in America (and the ads that are placed from England to the American public) are yorkies so expensive! I think we can agree to disagree on most of these topics, so as a lady I will thank you for your input and lets leave it at that. |
Let me see if I've got this right...... If your Yorkie is pregnant, this will be your second unplanned litter. You had an unplanned litter with your pet store Maltese and one of the puppies died from a genetic condition? And you traded the two surviving puppies for Yorkie because the Yorkie looked like one you had stolen from you? And you gave your momma Maltese as a replacement to the person who got the puppy who died?  http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...ml#post3036963 And your Yorkie came from the breeder who was being discussed in that thread ..... with no papers? Sweet Yorkie Kisses - ***YORKIE PUPPIES{Golden Yorkies}{Chocolate*Yorkies}{Biewers} Yorkie Studs for Hire-links on the right Please, please tell me how you plan to breed excellent quality puppies with this history? |

My first concern is with the health of the Yorkies you intend to breed or have indeed bred. Okay showing is pretentious .. but I hope you don't think that insuring the health of future puppies is. Have you done the health checks? |

The best thing is to plan for puppies and you will be prepared..of course you will know before long whether she is or she isn't... I always find it humorous when people say they want to breed a quality litter and sell for reasonable prices. A woman bugged for a a long time about selling her a puppy about half of what I was asking for mine. Finally, she bought a bitch and bred a litter...when she was ready to sell, she called me and asked me to groom the litter..in our conversation I asked the price...it was the same as mine...WHAT!!! I thought my prices were too high... PAT..do you have any idea how hard I have worked and how much money I have spent on these puppies...LOL priceless puppies for sure. |
