Is Dexter Stud material? Every time I go anywhere with Dexter...and that's almost everywhere I go...people ask me if I am going to breed him. I had thought about it, but don't know much about it. I'm not one to get involved with something that I don't know a lot about. I looked online for a couple hours...but could not find any good info. Does anyone have any advice on materials that would help? One more thing...about behavior. What is good behavior for yorkies? My sister has a yorkie that we all love dearly, but she is crazy/out of control. Dexter is extremely obedient and very focused, but shy around people he doesn't know. However, if I am not around, it only takes him a little while to get attached to someone. Is this good or bad for breeding? He is also 4.5lbs...is that a good weight? I know i have several questions...but any help will be much appreciated!!

| I am not a breeder so can't give much advise. But, I do know it's best to have a smaller male with the female. Also, i think the registration and pedigree with Dexter is pretty important along with health etc. And regarding the personality, some of which you described sounds a lot like a training situation, not so much personality. (this is mainly in regards to your Sister's Yorkie being "out of control" as you mentioned) I really commend you on finding out as much information as you can and doing research.

dex will be 11 months old on the 21st of this month. also, he is CKC registered (continental)...I originally wanted AKC, but I "accidentally" bumped into dexter and fell in love (you know how it is). anyway, the breeder has worked for the vet (where we met) for 10+ years and had both of the parents on site. my vet said CKC is fine...and that health and temperment are much more important than registry. i got the files for both of dex's parents...but i will contact her to get his grandparents too. have you all heard any bad things about CKC?

Many males, even if not used as stud can be terrible markers. That does happen frequently when a pet has been studded and he can start marking his territory. Of course, his territory is where ever he says it is.. I do not like CKC reg. for a number of reasons BUT a biggy is the fact that the parentage cannot be traced if the ancestors are reg wit them or if the ancestors have not been reg with any registry. The owners can get 2 people to say they are purebred and CKC will reg them as purebred..If a dog is a family pet, the registering agency is not as important as when breeding is considered...

Do some research here on YT- there are numerous threads that have been posted with the same question that you have asked. There should be a wealth of reading material to get you started on things to think about before you take that next big step. Best of luck and put those reading specks on.
