Officailly in Labor~~~~Question please!! My bella maria sofia is in active labor Ultrasound last week shows 3 pups. By experience what is the time lapse in puppies being deliveried? 1 stage of labor last night digging, nesting uncomforatble all night. First pup born at 12:15 Still born, born with black and green on it. tried all the measurements ot bring life to it, didnt even take its first breath:( She is resting now, gave her some real vanilla ice cream, doesnt look like she is having any contractions, Vet is on call and says it can be hours??? How long is it usually in between the puppies being delivered? Thank you for your feedback. bella's Mommy |
Just to clarify stillborn pup bown at 12:15 today just a lil over an hour ago. she is resting now and I can feel other ones moving? So I know that for sure there is live pupps in her belly? |

Complication signs: If the dam has been pushing hard and steady for half an hour and there is no pup in sight, put on a surgical sterile glove and insert your finger in the vaginal canal, to feel if there is a pup in the canal. This is called "feathering" and sometimes will make the bitch get down to business and push some more. If the pup is right there, another few ushes should get it out. If not, alert your vet immediately. Other danger signs before, during, and after whelping - Call your vet - Constant haerd labor for more than an hour with no results - Green or odorous discharge from the vulva. Should be very concerned if this happens before the first pup is delivered. - An interval of two hours between pups with occasional hard labor - Any part of a pup stuck or protruding from the vaginal canal. - One hour of hard labor and no puppies - Three hours of no labor between pups and you think/know there is another pup. |

Last Tuesday our vet did the ultrasound and told me about 10 -14 days more. We figured she was at least 48-50 days. The ultrasound showed calcifed bones and 3 pups. so its been about what 1 week now. I figured it would be between now and monday? Today is the day! |

This is what I would do. Get her into the vet right now? Do you have someone to drive you just incase she decides to whelp another while you are in route? |
I have Mommy and Daddy. So its hard to know the exact day but it was in the week of 2/21 to 2/26. By the way daddy is getting fixed after this. We had decided that before that we would let them mate once and after that one of them is getting fixed. |

Did you inform the vet of the the discharge prior to delivery of the first pup. If there is an infection, there is a possibility the pups may have an infection too. Now, to make you feel a bit better about the pup that didn't make it. Think of if this way, if the pup had lived, he may have had something seriously wrong with it. Remember, there is reason for everything, so hang in there. |
Ok So I went and looked around her bed area dont see any more green discharge. Cleaned her right after and nothing else has came out. I called my vet and told them too and they are on standby.. She doesnt look like she is in distress?? I gonna call them again. I appreciate your feedback. thanks. Shannon |

Just based on what you told me, there might be a problem. So, prepare yourself, ok? I pray there isn't but, if it were me I'd be on my way to the vets. |
Yea I agree that green/black right before threw me off. My mom will be here soon so if needed we can go to our vet then. My Bella is my baby, you know im sure your is your baby too, so her health is my priority. For sure. Im so glad you were on to chat with me and help me feel at ease a little. She never contacted me and her last activity on YT was 9:45 P.M. last night. I do pray everything else went well and can only hope that she either contacts someone privately or gives the whole forum an update. |
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!! YES Bella is doing fine. We did go to the VET and she delivered there. 3 pups total 2 were stillborn One baby girl came home. They gave her a shot to progress the labor, she needed it because 20 minutes later she pushed them out. WE have a precious lil girl...Both are resting. What do ladies recommend for lactating mommies, I want to make sure she is producing the most milk possible. THANK YOU!!!! MUWAH! shannon and bella and family |

I PM'd you on suggestions to keep your mother producing milk. Don't get worried that she isn't producing enough milk, they don't usually the first couple of days, until that pup starts suckling hard. After that, her milk will let down every 2 hours. Make sure you weigh the baby twice a day for the first few days to ensure that she's gaining weight. That's your indicator that mom is producing good rich milk. Oh make sure that you help Bella out the first few days and diaper the pup. Just in case you don't know what I mean. Take a cotton ball, soak it with warm water, squeeze a bit of the water out. and rub her little anus. Take another cotton ball and do the same to her vaginal area. Do this once a day. Mom's usually do this instinctively, but sometimes new moms need a little help. |
