what not to dare ask anyone! i got an email that truly made me feel ill! a man emailed me enquiring about kukis upcoming pups... he wanted to know how old they would be in jan when ready to go (he misread about the dates) and if i could let one go a little earlier in time for xmas- it is also his daughters birthday that week to and she asked for her 1st puppy for her 5th birthday... i explained about the dates mix-up and that they are to be born middle of jan and wont be ready to leave for some time after that. but that would be too long- he wants one to hand her on Christmas morning with a little ribbon on it etc, because lady and the tramp is her fave movie. i apologized (i dont know why) and re-explained the whole surprise present puppy' and the need for a 'child-proof breed puppy' and wished him the best of luck in his search for a slightly sturdier dog since shes never had one before... so all that sounds fine, nothing too bad there. 'oh, but shes careful and she really wants a yorkshire terrior pup, because they are tiny enough for her to carry about. i saw one of yours is only 1 1/2kg n that sounds perfect for her... since your not using that one, could i not buy her it? we know its gonna stay small, so i'd pay your asking price for it if you could hold till christmas eve...' OMFG! he basically just asked me to sell my own child! my own tiny 3lb baby for his little girl to have as a play thing and accessory! i genuinely don't have anything to say to that. |
I think its bad for the breed to advertise tiny dogs. You can't blame anyone for asking for them if they are visable on a website that says you sell puppies. Why do you have one available for people to see if you are breeding ethically? Why create the desire? Unless they are fully educated, they won't know the reality associated with a tiny. |

it mentioned on kukis profile that she is hopefully going to have puppies and it was that which lead to him contacting me. i was annoyed that bambi stopped growing- i never wanted a tiny and i have used her as an example of why they shouldn't be bred so small. he said 'since i wasn't using it' meaning since you are not going to breed her (shes booked in for her spay)' and i do say on the profile all the problems owning a tiny (even a perfectly healthy one) can cause... thats why it annoyed me so much... i'm not advertising the pups yet either- just mentioned that she is Hopefully expecting... |
I understand. But I maintain ethical breeders don’t show photos of a 3 lb dog. People will be attracted to the size. Due to the public access on websites its harmful to the breed. People don't care enough to want a healthy dog. Cute can by more appealing than healthy. More people will want a tiny one after seeing a cute picture. So why create that desire? |
ah, see your point now... the profiles wern't supposed to be advertising anything (puppies, the breed in general or their size)- just for my friends to keep up to date- and i didnt really use it much anyway so have now cancelled my account. i never thought of it that way- the only reason her size was mentioned was because all the others had it on theirs- but i'll bear that in mind for any future discussions! darn her cuteness! |
