Are people just breeding anything??? What is up with people.I was looking on the kijiji site. I have never seen so many people selling what they call, DESIGNER , dogs .And they post them as ,maltese ,poodle, shih-tzu ,yorkie, .And the list goes on .But when you click on it to read it states ,Again DESIGNER ,.Poor poodles are being breed to death. If it keeps on i true breeds are going to be are to find .Don't get me wrong. I love all dogs .I just think people should post what they are from the start .And leave ,TEACUP -POCKET -AND DESIGNER OUT OF IT.Because the only time a dog fits in you pocket or a teacup is when it is a fews wks. old .SO WHAT HAPPENS TO IT WHEN IT NO LONGER FITS . THAT'S ONE OF THE REASONS THE SHELTERS ARE SO FULL .Thanks FOR LETTING ME SHARE MY THOUGHTS...PLEASE DON'T YELL AT ME TO MUCH. |
I agree! I grew up with toy poodles, my family still has them, they are awesome little dogs and it is really sad to see them mixed with everything under the sun. |
I agree also...and add to that...people who have two "name the breed here"...and breed them reqardless if they are breeding quality or not. This is one reason so many yorkies...do not resemble yorkies. It's disturbing and sad what's been done to this breed. |

This thread has me thinking of the other thread where that OP had her Yorkiepoo DNA'd and it came back as a mix of about 4-5 dogs:eek:. You can't even trust them to be selling the mixes they claim to be! |
I agree! My sister has a dog (not a yorkie) adopted from the shelter and the helper had assured her that it would be only about 8-10 pounds. Because my sister is a petite person, she couldn't physically handle a larger dog. Well, that 5lbs turned out to be 30....and she has her hands full and has worked with the dog very hard to train it so she can feel comfortable. |
I am outraged by the amount of cross breeding, mixed breeding, what ever you want to call it! Then these "designer" breeds get placed with no spay/neuter, oops pregnancies happen and the cycle continues! That is why our shelters have an abundance of dogs! Not to mention, the public needs to be a little more educated as to what they are purchasing, not just because the puppy is cute! |

I totally agree!!!! I can't believe the names some of these people come up with. Like hybrid (spelling???), Micro mini. What the heck is that? Sounds like a toy you get from a kids meal??? IDK, I am so grateful YT is here to educate. |

I too am glad YT can help educate, the ones who want to learn. Heck I learn something new everyday, I am always willing to learn! |

I couldn't agree more, I think it due in part to the public being so ignorant about dog breeding in general. Purebreds are no better than mutts, it just that breeders can predict the offspring with some certainty, and because of this, the grown dog is more likely to fit owners expectations. With mixes, you just don't know what you will get as an adult, and some people are so disappointed, and the dog goes off to the pound. I think these people are jerks, and the dogs are the ones who suffer. I read one thread where someone stated that their yorkie was a purebred, and her breeder called it a "high bred". I'm not sure what she thought was the definition of high bred, but the word she was looking for was probably hybrid, which means mixed breed. Breeders who breed mixes are NEVER reputable. Personally, I would stay away from kijiji ads, no good breeder would advertise there. |
I agree 1000%! It espeially makes me sick when people breed dogs and they are obviously a poorly bred example of the breed. One of my pet peeves is yorkies that look like chihuahuas. It's terrible what people breed. |
Quote:
Makes me wonder if they are breeding yorkie to chi to get the smaller size:mad:. As if our yorkies arent small enough as it is. |

Then what angers me more is those those who recieve this "designer" messes knowing that they aren't standard go and breed there dogs anyways. No telling what diseases/genetic disorders that dog could have. |

I completely agree! Some of you know that my rescue Aiko is from a BYB and she is just under 3 pounds and PREGNANT! Someone thought it would be cute to have super tiny puppies! And now I am having to fly clear to Dallas, TX to undo what never should have been done in the first place! I dont mind doing whatever it takes to make sure my precious little angel is healthy, but its rediculous the amount of people out there thinking, "oh wouldnt their puppies be cute?" and then not being able to handle things afterwards. It just makes me sick! I had a lady arrested and she is now serving a 5 year prison sentence because she had 37 dogs in a 6x6x12 foot shed that she was cross breeding for the money! 13 of them had to be put down due to severe mange. Its horrible and it makes me hate people sometimes! |
Well I think part of the "answer" is of course economics, and good marketing. Somehow "designer" dogs got fashionable. If there is a market there, or if some smart person can develop a market - then voila here come the designer dogs. All you need is a movie star or two to go around with their latest designer dog .. and then .. a market is born!. Then we have the "myth" or is it the "fact" of hybrid "vigour". Supposedly these mutts are more healthy then purebreds. Let's add to this the Over population "question" in shelters etc. I'm not sure how a person supports the hybrid vigour.. for where is the data on this? Where is the data collected by unbiased third parties, that shows hip/elbow dysplasia, cerf results, thryoid panels, stats collected on cause of death? Cancer, skin conditions etc. Oh yes .. I forgot, owners of mutts are not usually examined and tested for any of these things. Of course if they were then how would we accumulate the data? Lets see mark off your dog is a shepherd crossed with s**tstu crossed with bull terrier (I think). A grr |
I set here this morning looking at adds .Only a few out of all the adds i looked at was a fulled blooded dog,People make me so mad. What could have been someones loving pet ,turned into a dollar maker.and the bad thing is half of the ones that are breeding these little dogs don't give a S**t about them all they see is a dollar ,.I want to email them, and tell them to get a job.It realey makes me sick .I WISH IT WOULD STOP.BUT PEOPLE HAS GOT TO STOP BUYING FROM THESE BYB FOR IT TO STOP.THANKS |
Kijiji is a horrible HORRIBLE place that is full of BYBers trying to pawn off dogs to unsuspecting buyers. It makes me sick and I so wish that these types of ads would be banned from being posted on YT as "this dog needs a home" We preach and preach about this type of breeding and try to educate and these types of links defeat our efforts. :( |

Deja vu? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm?
I couldn't agree more! But I will still do everything I can to educate these "designer" owners! When it comes down to it, it is not there fault they have been educated the wrong way and misinformed!
It's unfortunate that some people get so defensive when you are only trying to provide information that is based on facts...not personal opinions. |

i think the designer breeds have a merit but i don't like that people have stopped breeding pure breed dogs because they think they cost to much to register. i have a friend who is looking for a yorkiepoo because they are supposed to be more layed back then the pure breed and she needs a calm dog for her special needs child we spoke with a woman who said she stopped breeding poodles because she could not handle the hassle of having the litter registered and DNA tested doing all the paper work so now she breeds yorkiepoos charges the same amount but pays less needless to say we left |
