Limited Registration What do you do about the limited registration? I blackened the box on the AKC registration form for limited registration, (she was going to be way to little to breed), but that won't necessarily work nowdays. If a person wanted to be dishonest, they can do the registration on-line, and not act like it was limited registration --- and they can get by with that, right? |
Sorry, I don't know. You might want to post your question in the breeder's forum. ETA: Have you thought about spaying/neutering before they leave for their new homes? This would be the safest, most responsible approach IMO. |
No you can't get away with it by registering on line in that box that you black out is a number that you have to give |

I agree that if you blacken that number then it should be almost impossible for them to see the number to give her full registration. But hopefully you are confident enough in the buyer that that you wouldn't suspect them trying to go out of their way to get full registration to breed a dog that is too small. You could also hold the registration papers altogether until they have proof of spay once you receive conformation of spay you can send them the registration papers. She would still be limited but you would have no reason to worry. |
Personally if I were a breeder (I'm not and couldn't be), I would probably do what I've read some breeders on here do. They delay turning over papers until proof of spay/neuter has been furnished. Ideally, it would be great for the spay/neuter to take place first, that's not always possible unless breeders keep their puppies until they are a little older. I would also have strong language in my contract about this issue. |
Crooks will do what is ever necessary to make a buck. I agree with holding the papers until proof of the fix, but I do not agree that they should be fixed before they leave the breeders house. I believe a male should be pretty much developed 10 months give or take and a female before her first heat, but not at 2 months. JMHO. I would not buy from a breeder that would do that, fixed before leacing, unless it was a older pup that could not be placed. Puppy Mills provide papers! Pet stores provide Papers. Mamy breeders provide papers. I am not a breeder or a Show person, but I would always want the best from the best! |
A spay/neuter contract is a good idea as Bonny suggested. Online registration requires the number in the shaded box, that can't be verified once shaded. |
Just want to say good for you for selling on limited registration, I really wish more breeders would do this. Unfortunately, a buyer can still register with the CKC (Continental Kennel Club), even though the pups were sold this way. I always recommend buyers avoid CKC pups for this reason. Knowing your buyer is the safest way, but people are so deceitful sometimes. Joey breeder had it in the contract, and I got the idea that should could come and get the dog at any time, so I did what she said! |
That will only keep them from registering her with full AKC but many dishonest people will use another registry or just breed without any papers. All my limited registration pups go home with a spay/neuter contract and if they don't spay or neuter by a certain age I have all rights to reclaim the puppy back. I don't believe in spaying/neutering early so this is the best I could think of. |
Thanks for all the advise and tips about this. Of course when I blackened it in, she couldn't see the number to put down on-line! Duh, you could tell I should have been in bed when I wrote that!!! :D However, I'm glad that I did, because I didn't know the correct age to have them fixed or think of holding back on the papers until they show proof that they did get it done. SO, thank you very much to all that posted. |

You can also register a puppy on-line with AKC. We've done it that way, and it's really easy. However, now one of the pups I need to register is a Parti Yorkie, so I need to send pictures to them for her. I need to look into the details about that, and see how it's all done. Hopefully, I can take the pictures of her with my digital camera, print off the prints myself, and then send those. |

If you send for registration papers online for a litter, you can also now check the status of your puppies registration. Whether the new owners registered them or not and even the names they used. |

It's good to know they shouldn't be spayed too early....what do you think is the earliest healthy age to spay? I just assumed (probably wrongly) that this was an older pup because the OP said it was obvious she wasn't going to be big enough to breed. Sorry to butt in here, but this thread has made me curious. :) |
