I don't know about the farm, or getting to carried away with too many animals, that includes reptiles, and rodents!!!! |
I always wanted a parakeet while growing up, but never had one. We did have two cockateils and two different times and then my parents had a cockatoo for years. I definitely like the bigger birds better as they of course are just more fun and able to do so much more. Unfortunately, the bigger the bird, the louder the noise they can make. I swear, when he was screaming you could hear him at the end of their long gravel driveway and that was with all of the windows and doors closed! On the flip side, he was by far the sweetest bird I have ever known. He wasn't much of a talker (only said Hello), but all you had to do was stick your hand in his cage and he would rub his head against it to save you the hassle of actually petting him. Oh, and don't mind the post by Culinary Pro there......that's my hubby.......and he's all talk when it comes to animals. He wasn't much of an animal person when I met him, but by the time I was done with him he was glued to Animal Planet and spouting off a list of pets he wants to have one day, which include an African Grey and a Monkey of all things! :) |

Wow !!.. god bless... Question: ages 17yrs to 5 weeks.. Is this your daughters or your dogs?? |
Sylvan parakeets are good birds we used to raise them and sell them to the pet store. They are very smart ours would be let out of their cages everyday they loved it they always came over and sat with us they can bite very hard though and draw blood, make sure you get a little one and not an adult. They are messy also like to throw food out of the dishes. We haad them for 6 years, easy to reproduce also if the conditions are right, we had the 3 colored parakeets.(yellow blue and green) |
I live in Southern Maryland too. I see you are in Waldorf. I'm in Calvert. I'm not a breeder, but have been thinking about it seriously for a long time. I've got two 10 month old yorkies. I love the breeder I got them from. He live around Baltimore, and has the most beautiful yorkies. |
Are the two beauties that you have brother and sister?? They are adorable! :) |

011011, Thanks also for parakeet info, my Skipper Blue was a great pet when I was a kid. I just really don't need anyone else to clean up after and that always seems to end up being my job in the end. waistful, who is the breeder your pups came from? JHurtt, is husband really a culinary pro? might have to invite myself for dinner. |
Yeah, he is...and a great one. Two problems with it though, the first is obviously that dinner is the busiest time at a restaurant, so of course he is rarely home to eat it, yet alone cook it. The other problem is that when he cooks, he is great at just knowing what to add. Then I will eat it and think it is just the best thing ever.....and he won't remember how he made it! :) I definitely can't complain though because I know most men out there are lucky if they can figure out how to cook a pop tart! :D |
yes they are brother and sister! Quote:
Let me know how it's going with your breeding aspirations!! You can e-mail me at tidd@comcast.net |
How much do mentors charge? I had a akc judge offer to be my mentor the other day. I didn't really take her to seriously. I don't have that kind of money, but do need advice. I have made some mistakes breeding and trying to fix them |
Mostly, a really caring, loving helpful mentor will do it for the love of the breed. There might be occasional expenses for travel or such, but I, frankly do not know how I could put a dollar value to mentoring. I would have been lost were it not for my mentor who abandoned me just to move to FL with her family..LOL Waistful, check your PM.. |
