Tired of Vet Bills! Ok, it not as bad as the title!! But I am tired of paying 3-4 times the price for something I can get myself or do myself. I have now vaccinated my own dogs and even though it has been 30 years (almost) Since the last time I injected an animal.(actually I was taught in a school) I think I did pretty well. Now on to heartworm protection. I'm trying to purchase heart gard or a similar product, but every site I go to wants a precription. Don't get me wrong my fur babies will go to the vet for check-ups and their rabies shots and also their blood tests. But I don't understand why my vet charges $6.50 for the precription!! This gets me a bit upset. :( I pay a small fortune to the vet now, How about $87.00 for the puppy's last visit and he didn't have a fecal exam, nor shots, or even get a toe nail clipped. They just gave me a puppy pack and a bag of food. Does anyone have a place to purchase heart worm protection without a prescription?? |
I cant find my dr Fosters and Smith catalog but I am pretty certain you can get there. You can order vaccinations and flea meds from them too. They have an online catalog. |
Thanks ,but you still need a precription for them at Foster and Smith! Has anyone ever tried Revolution for fleas and heartworm prevention?? |

I'm in GA. Here I take my dogs for their vaccinations for $60 including heartworm testing to PetCo. Every Sunday here they have traveling Vets through Luv My Pet that come and do vaccinations and you can also purchase medications and even get microchipped. I have a vet I go to for other things just like when I had to get Mollie spayed. I'm not sure if they are in your area of FL. When I first starting taking my dogs there several years ago. They would travel from FL now they have an administrative office only here in the county where I live. I get Mollie's heartworm medication for around $20 for a 6 month supply. They may have to do another heartworm test I'm not sure. I also get Frontline there for around $30 - 35. Hope this helps. |
Heartworm I have mine sent from Australia..no prescription needed..and they are the same meds..you have to order from a country who does not require a presception for vet meds. Shipping wasn't much. www.Petshed.com |
Thanks everybody!! |
our local humane society...adopt-a-pet...carries a brand of heart worm medication. you don't need a prescription and it's considerable cheaper than a vet's office. it doesn't repel fleas like many others do but the option is still out there. |
I agree heck my vet wont give me a break 110 per bile acid test and thank goodness for the advantage trick if you have a heart gard trick let me know a vet told me if your sire and dam have been on an active heartworm program you dont have to test each puppie just start the program the mom give protection through her milk and i too am going to start giving my Yorkies there own shots i did my aussies but was worked up on how small the yorkies are |

Do you buy your flea meds from them too. I've heard (I see that it may not be true) that the frontline plus from other countries isn't the same thing we have here. So I was wondering how effective it is. |

Equine Megastore in Australia I have used them for a couple years and they are great. Everything with fresh dates and gets here really just as quick as any other US place. |
Thanks for all the great information everyone!! So far www.Petshed.com is the cheapest, so I ordered from them, and it was already sent, should get it by 10/17, and the best part No Prescription Needed!! :p |

I get drs foster smith catalogs and you can order them out of there. You don't need a prescriptoin. In VA where my grandfather lives you can go to the Farm Bureau and get some maybe all of their vaccinations. |
Tractor Supply chain also carries single dose vaccines for dogs and cats |
