Quick Breeding Question... I notice that my female was bleeding yesterday. It was coming from her...private area. My male dog has been humping her when ever they are alone...sometimes she lets him other times she does not. Here is the question I just known of her bleeding that one time yesterday and it was all over everyones clothes. I have not notice anymore blood but then again she is a very clean yorkie. I checked her earlier today but no blood. Also like I said he has been humping her when they are alone together but not tie as of yet. She is 22 mths old.... other cycles in the past was light bleeding.....does the amount of blood have anything to do with them not locking? |
If she is bleeding she is not ready yet. She should stand for him in about a week. Mine have very little bleeding they keep themselves very clean. You should research and read everything you can find on breeding. If you have been planning to breed, you should have already researched the reproductive cycle of dog. I don't mean to sound judgemental, but you should have already done your homework. http://www.petpeoplesplace.com/resou...d-dog-mate.htm |

I have to agree with JeanieK on this one. If you have to ask these types of questions, then you are not prepared to breed. Giving your male open access to your female as you have described is a VERY bad idea. A breeding pair should be supervised at all times when they are attempting to tie and should not be allowed to do so more than once each day. I would suggest you continue researching, maybe find a breeding mentor to work with FIRST. |
Sorry bout that I missed my post up it posted this 2x's and thought the other did not post so I wrote this one.... No you do not sound judgemental.....its not that I didn't study cause I have for 2 yrs and been with other breeders and breed other dogs before...I have just never had this to happen..... some say some dogs dont bleed and she does and has before....but not like this....never this light.... that is why i was wondering.... |
I have.... She is not bleeding and I put him w/her cause of that...I have been watching them...they stay indoors and with us all the time.... I was wondering if the amount of blood had to do with locking or not.....that's all.... |
OK! Anway I found the answer to my question else where. As I stated before I have done this before with other dogs and talked to ....and so on with vets and breeders. I have studied for 2 yrs. on breeding yorkies and a year or so on the breed itself. I talked to other yorkie owners that live here...and yorkie breeders that are here also. I just never experienced this before. I know they only breed once a day but they have never locked and he just humps (all over her....side etc.) It looks as if he has just been playing with her. Like I said she cleans herself and I notice other signs almost a week ago (just no bleeding) that's way I went and got the vet etc. done before yesterday. We had 1 more thing to go with her to get ready and we were coming back from there when we saw the blood. I did check where it came from and all. I just was needing to know if the amount of blood had to do with anything. Like I said she always keeps herself clean and always has been light when it came to her cycles...but never this light (no collie or peekapoo was this light that we breed) .The reason I asked here I thought I would get the answer faster but I went else where. So thanks anyway....if I can breed other breeds I can do yorkies ( I also have help).... |

Before I started breeding, I did a lot of research and reading and knew what to look for during the heat cycle. Your comments about the male being all over her indicate that you are not as experienced as you claim to be. Or you would know that this is typical for an inexperienced male. You would also know at which stage in her cycle she would be ovulating, and why she is not allowing him to tie. And you would know that the amount of blood has nothing to do with the tie. I'm glad that you are asking questions, but you really should have done the homework before now. |

Having mated other dogs before does not make you a "breeder". A professional researches and learns before getting into something. |

As you've said you've bred other breeds before, toy breeds are different, especially the yorkie. |

In comparison to your Border Collie and Peekapoo? Yes, it is quite different. Yes it is completely different in so many aspects. The risks and issues with Yorkies are very unique and specific to the breed, as is the case with any dog. I find this whole thread a bit concerning. It seems as if you are missing the main point that several of the experienced breeders here are trying to convey to you. Hmmm, how to put this delicately.... I realize that you claim to be experienced and well researched, and I'm in no way trying to accuse you of being anything but truthful with those statements, but based on the comments and questions you have asked, it seems as if maybe several others have picked up on tell tale signs that you are not as prepared as you think you are or as you could/should be. Something that experiences breeders would be able to easily pick up on, no? Unfortunately, it also seems that you are set in your decision, convinced that you are as prepared as you need to be and I doubt that anyone here will sway you to consider otherwise. That being said, I sincerely hope that everything works out to suit the best interests of your female and I encourage you to always strive to keep that as your primary concern. |
 I think you hit the nail on the head. |
EXCUESE MY SPELLING IT SUCKS I am unsure as to why no one knows "locking" it refurs to being stuck or "tied" I am a vet tech locking is often the term used even in text but tied is more so used with breeders. When time is near I always check for swelling then when it is evident I wipe with tissue after going potty to check for color (mine dont ever leave "evidince") Be sure of the swelling I had a recent experince with a bitch who was comming to me for service and gave no signs from my experinced studs my newbe and her stud was all over her for a month we walk together every sunday. it was a pain to say the least. ANYWAYS she came 3 times twice she wasn't ready then a visit to the vet identified the ACTUAL bleeding was a bladder infection after it cleared and a year later we have beautiful babies I could have done without mine and his deliveriing at the same time it was his 1st litter he purchased a stud from me after our 1st miss but he didnt seem to interested so I offered up my male an had planned to be there with him but our new 1st time mommy was having trouble so I couldn't leave. we had 2 litters of M M F in that order. Billy's puppies were born 1130pm 9.24 male, 2nd male 130am, female 210am on 9.25 mia's puppies born 1230am male, 145am 2nd male, 220am female |
